Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Robbie Ray and Felix Hernandez in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below.

Pitching Targets

Drew SmylyDrew Smyly FD 8500 DK 9000
Opponent - SD (Perdomo) Park - @TB
FD - 35.9 DK - 23.93

Drew Smyly?! But Nick -- he owns a 5.14 ERA!

I honestly don't care about his ERA. His xFIP is at 4.27 and he's a solid pitcher. Not only is his xFIP much better than his ERA, but he also draws a beautiful matchup going up against the Padres; at spacious Tropicana Field.

He has major upside in this contest, as the Padres own a 24.4 K% against left-handed pitchers on the year. Not only do they own an extremely high K%, but Smyly also does some fanning of his own. He sports a 23.6 K% on the year to go along with a 6.3 BB%. I love the matchup for Smyly today and I believe he is a great play in all formats tonight.

Matt MooreMatt Moore FD 8800 DK 8800
Opponent - PIT (Vogelsong) Park - @SF
FD - 36.89 DK - 24.35

Matt Moore and the Giants will be going up against the Pittsburg Pirates. This is an interesting matchup to say the least. There are some pros and cons to this matchup, which is why I'll only use Moore in tournaments.

The Pros:

The Giants are favorites in this contest with a -145 money line.

Matt Moore has looked solid in his last five starts averaging 34.8 Fanduel fantasy points and posting a 2.45 ERA.

The Pirates own a 23.4 K% against souhtpaws (4th highest in MLB).

And he will be pitching at home, in spacious AT&T Park.

The Cons:

The Pirates own a .341 wOBA (4th highest in MLB) against southpaws.

They scored a ton of runs over the weekend.

There are not a ton of pitching options on the mound today, so I don't mind rolling the dice with Matt Moore in GPP'S. The Pirates strikeout a ton and will be pitching in one of the friendliest parks for a pitcher. He's got some upside and a chance to pick up the W with Vegas on his side.

Bartolo ColonBartolo Colon FD 7700 DK 0
Opponent - ARI (Ray) Park - @ARI
FD - 23.24 DK - 14.88

And last off we have the great, Bartolo Colon! He's Bartolo Colon, so why wouldn't you throw out a lineup that featured him? He's the face of baseball, and I say we change the MLB logo to a picture of him! What do you say?

On a serious note:

I really like Colon tonight. He's a nice price tag that will allow you to get exposure to Coors and has a nice matchup going up against the D'Backs. The D'Backs have been solid against righties this season, but have been colder than my ice cream as of late. In their last 30 contests, they own a .297 wOBA (27th in MLB) to go along with a 22.9 K%. The K% gives our lord and savior some nice upside and should be able to deliver a quality start. You never know, he could be the guy to win us a tournament! Happy Colon Day ladies and gentlemen!

So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.

  1. Go ahead…roll with Colon in Arizona. Jeez!…If you want to save on pitching, Vogelsong is a much safer pick.

  2. Jerome he never said the word safe. He’s far from it but nobody will own him so for a big tourney he is a good possibility

  3. It still don’t get why you guys pick opposing pitchers like Ray then Colon. You only can get the possible win and 12 points from only one of them.

  4. Frank both could have great games with a ND it’s tough and fantasy sometimes need to roll the dice. Last time he plays great again AZ but didn’t they the W

  5. Frank/ Jerome: I never said it was safe. I just said it’s a great matchup. And the numbers say so too. There are not a lot of options today and Ray as well Colon are in great spots. And Colon is affordable.

  6. Choosing Ray or Colon enables you to improve your odds with hitters. Your pitcher could be Meh (and still get a win agains the hapless Mets Offense), and your hitters could dominate.

  7. I understand the concept of salary cap…thank you. I cited an example (Vogelsong) that is a much better play than Colon pitching in the 2nd best hitters park in mlb. Any pitcher on this slate was a better play than Colon. These guys here just throw darts and you will have better success picking your own players and using this site for weather and such. Take it from me.
