Pitching Targets
Note: We discussed Masahiro Tanaka and Jacob deGrom in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below.
Early Slate Targets
Opponent - STL (Weaver) Park - @CHC
FD - 33.41 DK - 21.91
No clear-cut cash game pitcher on the early slate, which always makes things interesting. In the main picks article we mentioned Tanaka, so I'll go ahead and go with Kyle Hendricks.
He does not have the best of matchups against the Cardinals, but the Cubs are red-hot. They are coming into today's contest winning 11 games in a row. Their offense has been on fire, so I expect Hendricks to get some run support and possibly pick up the W. Not only I'm I looking at run support, but I'm also look at Hendricks from a talent perspective. On the year, he owns a 1.07 WHIP, 21.4 K% and 3.35 FIP. He has a solid K%, which will help his upside in tournaments and also doesn't allow many runners to get on base. He is the best pitcher on this slate (raw talent wise), so I'll go ahead and use him in all formats.
Interesting Fact: Hendricks owns a 1.05 ERA in his last five starts.
Main Slate Targets
Opponent - BAL (Gausman) Park - @SF
FD - 38.91 DK - 25.59
Mad-Bum against the Orioles is an extremely sneaky play in my opinion. Yes, the Orioles have a ton of big bats, but as a team they have struggled against southpaws. On the year, they rank 26th in MLB with a .300 wOBA and 83 wRC+. Not only do they struggle, but they are also playing at AT&T Park, which is one of the friendliest parks to pitchers.
Madison Bumgarner is one of the best in the business, so I'll be using him in all formats. The Orioles might shy some people away from him especially with [deGrom] pitching, so I'll roll with the southpaw at home. And don't forget, the Orioles are a team that strikeout quite a bit, so Mad-Bum's upside is very high.
Opponent - OAK (Graveman) Park - @OAK
FD - 30.2 DK - 20.37
Hisashi Iwakuma has a beautiful price around the industry, so I believe he's a guy you can play in all formats. He's been solid this season with an ERA under 4, but has been on fuego as of late! In his last five starts, he owns a 0.99 WHIP, 2.08 ERA and 18.3 K-BB%. He's been on a roll, so go ahead and use him against an ice-cold Athletics' squad. The A's own a .309 wOBA (27th in MLB) in their last 30 contests, so look for red-hot Iwakuma to deliver a quality start against them. And I know he won't be pitching at home, but the Coliseum is very friendly to pitchers as well.
So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.
