Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Stack Targets
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Drew Smyly (Rays)
Park - Rogers Centre
The Blue Jays were scattered all over the main picks article, which is why we are seeing them here. The Jays will be facing off with Drew Smyly at home in the hitter friendly Rogers Centre. While Drew Smyly is not a horrible pitcher, he has struggled against righties and has struggled even further with giving up the longball. In 99 innings against right handers, he has given up 17 home runs, which is the 5th most in the league. Aside from the huge home run rate, he has also sported a .330 wOBA and a 21.8% line drive rate. The Blue Jays have hit the 4th most home runs against lefties in the league and has also sported a .339 wOBA. The Blue Jays will be very highly owned, which is why there is merit in going with a sneaky stack.
Main stack - Devon Travis, Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion
Sneaky stack - Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, Melvin Upton Jr.
Chicago Cubs vs. Jered Weaver (Angels)
Park - Wrigley Field
While the Cubs are listed last here, they are probably my favorite stack of the night with all things considered. I expect them to be way under owned and this match up is exceptional for the style of their offense. Weaver has been absolutely atrocious against both left handers and righties. In over 100 innings, Weaver has exhibited a combined wOBA of .372, which is beyond atrocious. Aside from the pitiful wOBA, he has backed it up with a dead fastball and some horrible batted ball rates. The Cubs on the other hand, bring a ton of power to the table with guys like Rizzo and Bryant, while bringing speed as well with Fowler, Heyward and Javier Baez. While I likely won't get sneaky here, there is always merit in using a "weird" stack on an offense like this due to the production being spread out and not exactly concentrated.
Main stack - Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Willson Contreras
Sneaky stack - Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward, Javier Baez
