A quick heads up - we post an updates article every day in the early afternoon, EST, to catch everyone up on how things are changing as a result of whatever news has come through. We also have great talks in the comments of that article. Hope to see you there!
Early Slate
Opponent - ATL (Jenkins) Park - @PHI
FD - 29.28 DK - 19.43
There are little to no options outside the top two pitchers(Roark/deGrom) in the early slate. For GPP formats I would definitely take a shot with Hellickson in a plus matchup today. He will face the Braves who rank dead last in wOBA(.283) , ISO(.112) and wRC+(74) vs. right handed pitching and sit with a -111 run differential on the season. The Phillies are currently sitting as -140 favorites at home and Hellickson is coming in with some nice form having won two straight starts and limiting his opponents to two earned runs on 10 hits in 12 innings. He has seen a spike in his strikeout rate this season as it sits at 8.13 K/9. His big issue this season has been the long ball(17% HR/FB rate) so if he can limit the hard contact I feel he can own the Braves and pickup the win today.
Evening Slate
Opponent - KC (Kennedy) Park - @TOR
FD - 31.59 DK - 20.88
The scenario is about the same on the evening slate with one clear cut chalky pitcher in Cueto then a bunch of mid tier options that are not completely trustworthy. For the big discount I will side with Stroman today against a Royals team that does not look anything like the World Series champs from 2015. They currently rank 20th in wOBA(.310) vs. right handed pitching and have been terrible away from Kauffman Stadium with a 16-29 record on the road. Stroman has experienced an up and down season, which is to be expected of a pitcher who relies less on strikeouts and more on his command and control. He doesn't have a pretty strikeout rate (6.42 K/9) but is producing a 59% ground ball rate. He ERA of 5.08 has room for some positive regression as the xFIP is much lower at 3.83 and he also has a below average 64% LOB rate. There are some positive signs for Stroman who is coming off an excellent start vs. the red hot Indians as he only gave up one earned run on five hits in 6.2 innings pitched with six punchouts and only one walk. I would even go as far as trusting him in DraftKings cash games paired with on of the top options.
So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.
