Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Stack Targets
Early Slate
Cincinnatti Reds vs. Adam Warren (Cubs)
Park - Wrigley Field
The Reds enter a great matchup today and make and excellent stacking option. They will face off against Adam Warren of the Cubs today who is making his first start of the 2016 season. In 25.2 innings pitched out of the bullpen this season he has been pretty bad with a 4.56 ERA and even worse 5.43 xFIP. He is working with a fairly low strikeout rate(6.31 K/9) but the real issue has been the ugly 4.91 BB/9 rate. If he allows the Reds to get multiple runners on base he could very well get rocked early and often and not have a chance to face these hitters a second or third time through the lineup. The park shift is somewhat negative for the Reds but it is not too worrisome with the wind blowing out to right center at Wrigley today. Jay Bruce and Joey Votto are my two favorite options with Adam Duvall and Billy Hamilton right behind.
Also Consider - Washington Nationals vs. Matt Garza(Brewers)
Evening Slate
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Jeff Locke (Pirates)
Park - Busch Stadium
Looking at the evening slate their are some excellent stacking options with the Blue Jays and Red Sox headlining and probably coming in at the highest ownership. I can definitely jump on board with either option but have a possible lower owned stack with upside. The Cardinals caught my eye when first looking at this slate. They face off against Jeff Locke who, in my opinion, has got lucky to have recorded eight wins to this point. He is working with an absolutely awful 4.66 K/9 rate while walking close to three batters per nine innings. His ERA sits at 5.13 and the xFIP of 5.01 does not suggest he is any better. Digging even deeper on Locke's numbers you will see his Home/Road splits are pretty amazing. At home he has been serviceable with a 2.96 ERA and has held opponents to under a .300 wOBA. When the Pirates head out on the road it has been a different story all together as Locke has a 7.16 ERA and has allowed opponents a .373 wOBA. It is best to target the right handed bats(Piscotty, Holliday, Diaz, Molina) for the Cards as Locke is allowing 32.8% hard contact vs. right handed hitters vs. a 21% hard contact rate vs. lefties.
Also Consider - Boston Red Sox vs. Martin Perez (Rangers)
