A quick heads up - we post an updates article every day in the early afternoon, EST, to catch everyone up on how things are changing as a result of whatever news has come through. We also have great talks in the comments of that article. Hope to see you there!

Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Cleveland Indians vs. James Shields (CLE)

James Shields on the road against a solid Cleveland Indians offense? Sign me up!

It hurts me to say it, but James Shields just has just not looked great out there, so I'm going to stack against him. He is coming into this contest sporting an 8.2 K-BB%. His K percentage is under 20% and his walk percentage is all the way at 10%, which isn't a very good combination (looks at how bad he's been as of late, and that will show you part of the reason why he's been in this funk). The other problem James Shields has is the fact that opposing bats are hitting him hard. They own a 35.5% hard contact rate and 50.% medium contact rate, so they are getting to him and making the most of it. With his inabilities to punch guys out, with his control issues and with how hard they are hitting him this season -- is the reason why I will be stacking the Cleveland Indians (.317 wOBA T-10th in MLB and .171 ISO 10th in MLB against right-handed pitchers).

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Yovanni Gallardo (SD)

Gallardo has only pitched in 18 innings this season, as he's coming off a shoulder injury, but he has not look well at all. He's only struken out 10% of the batters he has faced, while walking 8% of them. He is pitching to contact, which is never a good thing, especially when you will be going up against a powerful Jays' lineup. It's going to take some time for him to find his groove and be able to be an effective pitcher in the big leagues, but until then, go ahead and stack the Blue Jays! These guys put on a show last night (scored 13 runs), will be going up against a tired bullpen and a banged up pitcher. Everything favors the Jays' in this matchup; so don't think to hard and just stack against Gallardo.

New York Mets vs Aaron Blair (ATL)

The 24-year-old will be going up against the New York Mets and Vegas seems to be totally against him. I know an 8-run total isn't that high, but the Mets are heavy favorites in this one and Steven Matz is on the mound for the Mets. So what I'm trying to say, is that you can expect the majority of the runs to come from the Mets.

On the year, Blair owns a 7.59 ERA and 6.15 xFIP. I guess it's safe to say that his ERA will drop a tiny bit, especially with him owning a 6.06 SIERA. The reason why his ERA won't drop much is not only the fact that they are hitting him a ton, but his K-BB% is just awful. It is siting at -1.1%. He is walking more batters than he's striking out, which is never a good thing if you're a pitcher. I know the Mets' offense has not been the best in the last couple of months with all their injuries, but this is the time to stack them in a tournament and let them do their thing. Blair has not proven to me that he can pitch in the big leagues, so until then, I will continue to stack against him.

So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.

  1. I know the match up is good, but I’m not rostering any mets hitters tonight. They’re slumping real bad.

    • But as always, they will blow up today if you don’t play em. Never fails!

  2. Can’t blame you, but the matchup is way too good to pass up on. Especially with how many batters Blair walks per game.

  3. All true, and it is a short slate. Conforto is cheap and we need the savings somewhere for the pitching….

  4. Mets are slumping but they helped pull down the big GPP on DK a couple of nights ago.
