Pitching Targets
Pitching is absolutely ATROCIOUS today. Tanner Roark and Scott Kazmir were already mentioned in the main picks article. I am only going to recommend 1 guy in each slate as I am not comfortable touting guys that I would not play myself. Hope that makes sense.
Early Slate
James Paxton FD 7400 DK 8800
Opponent - TB (Snell) Park - @TB
FD - 29.89 DK - 15.37
Let me start by saying that I am far from confident in any pitcher today, let alone the options in the early slate. That being said, James Paxton is going to be my top guy. He faces off with a Tampa Bay Rays team that strikes out 24.1% of the time against lefties, the second most in the league. While I do prefer right handers against the Rays, the pickings are slim today and the safety of 6-7 strikeouts is going to be a huge difference maker. Since Paxton returned to the majors on June 1st, he has been dominant with a 1.72 xFIP, 52% groundball rate and a phenomenal 2.49 SIERA. Paxton will have the platoon advantage over 2 or 3 batter which will likely be automatic outs as he has dominated lefties throughout his entire career. That being said, if the lineup comes out and it is 9 righties, I like it even more. Why? Because a good portion of those righties are going to be guys that have trouble hitting minor league pitching. As a bonus, Paxton is very good at holding runners which marginally decreases the chance of a big inning for the Rays. While you may not be able to roll out Paxton with confidence, you can have some hope.
Evening Slate
CC Sabathia FD 7200 DK 9800
Opponent - MIN (Gibson) Park - @MIN
FD - 29.37 DK - 15.02
Ladies and gentleman, a day I never thought I would see. The resurgence of C.C. Sabathia. Sabathia was absolutely pummeled against right handers last year and while he is by no mean elite this season, he has sported a very good .266 wOBA that is backed up by a 24.3% hard contact rate. As a side note that I thought was interesting, Sabathia sported the 2nd lowest ERA in the month of May behind only - you guessed it, Clayton Kershaw. While ERA is a stat I stay far away from, I thought that was a pretty interesting tidbit. Sabathia has made some huge changes as his velocity has decreased. The biggest of which, has been the replacement of his fastball with a cutter. The cutter is a pitch that can be very useful at a low velocity as it rides the handle on righties and hits the end of the bat against lefties. He takes on a Minnesota Twins team today that strikes out at the league's 7th highest rate, 22.1%. While I am not expecting C.C. "CY" Sabathia to dominate for the rest of 2016, I expect a very serviceable season for the 35 year old.
So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.
