Pitching Targets

Note: We discussed Madison Bumgarnerand David Price in the Main Article. And will be going over a few more options below.

John Lackey FD 9900 DK 11300
Opponent - WSH (Gonzalez) Park - @WSH
FD - 31.75 DK - 16.83

Madison Bumgarner seems to be the clear-cut top arm on tonight's slate, so I will go ahead and give you some tournament options. And the first guy on the list is John Lackey.

At the age of 37, John Lackey is still putting in work! He is coming into tonight's contest sporting a 2.63 ERA that is backed up by a 2.98 FIP. He has also held opponents to a .197 AVG and owns a 27.1 K%! He is just pitching out of his mind. I guess some players really do get better with age. He will be pitching in spacious Nationals Park tonight, which should help the veteran out. I know pitching against Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy will scare a lot of DFS'ers away from Lackey, [but] he has been phenomenal, and the Nationals are in the middle of the pack against right-handed pitchers. He will be low-owned today, so go ahead and plug him in some tournament lineups.

Jhoulys Chacin FD 6000 DK 7000
Opponent - MIN (Santana) Park - @LAA
FD - 29.18 DK - 15

I have decided to change things a bit here. I will name a few "cheap" or "value play" guys that I see delivering a quality start and will allow you to pay up for a Coors stack or any stack of your choice. (Tournaments only please) there is some risk involved. So with that being said -- the first guy on the list is Jhoulys Chacin.

Chacin had an amazing start back on May, 30th. He fanned a total 10 batters in a complete game effort, but has been bad since then (it has only been two appearances). I guess what I am trying to say is that he has shown us the ability to go out there and dominate, and that could indeed be the case tonight. He will be going up against the Twins, who have struggled against right-handed pitchers this season. They own a .305 wOBA (22nd in MLB) to go along with a 22.7 K% (10th in MLB). Chacin isn't a guy that will fan a ton of hitters (18.7 K%), but a matchup against a strikeout prone offense in the Twins will certainly help him out. This is not a pick I would put my entire bankroll on, but he's in a great spot and our projection system is a fan of Chacin tonight!

Brandon Finnegan FD 6100 DK 8100
Opponent - ATL (Teheran) Park - @ATL
FD - 27.37 DK - 14.39

I'm going to start off by saying that Brandon Finnegan will be going up against the Atlanta Braves, in Turner Field. I know the Braves lit up the scoreboard last night, but that was last night. Tonight will be different against the 23-year-old southpaw. Finnegan is a very solid left-handed pitcher, but his problem has been control. He owns a 10.8 BB%, but if he can keep the walks in check, he should be okay. The Braves best hitters are all lefties (Nick Markakis, Ender Inciarte and Freddie Freeman), so Finnegan has a nice platoon advantage there. Finnegan isn't a guy with a ton of upside (16.3 K%), but this is a nice matchup for him and should be able to deliver a quality start.

Tom Koehler FD 6800 DK 7200
Opponent - SD (Pomeranz) Park - @SD
FD - 29.67 DK - 14.96

Last but not least we got -- Tom Koehler. Koehler is another guy that has had trouble with control (12.7 BB%), but he has looked good as of late. In his last two starts, he only walked two batters and fanned 12 batters. He isn't a guy that is known for striking out guys like his teammate Jose Fernandez, but he will be going up against a Padres' offense whose middle name happens to be "K." They own a 24.0 K% (3rd in MLB) to go along with a 6.2 BB% (29th in MLB). These guys strikeout a ton and are impatient at the plate, which sets up Koehler with a beautiful matchup. And pitching at Petco will only help him out.

  • I thought so too. Considering it has the lowest over/under of the night, I liked Pomeranz for that reason. The Marlins putting up 13 last night was an outlier

  • I know that Tijuan Walker is a roller coaster, but he is in a really good spot tonight.

  • Why does the optimizer keep putting Toronto players in the line ups when it updates?

  • bumgarner, suzuki, Loney, Dozier, J. Ramirez, L. Martins, T. Niquin,L. Chisenhall
