Pitching Targets
Note: We discussed Jake Arrieta, Matt Shoemaker and Tanner Roark in the Main Article. And will be going over a few more options below.
Early Slate
Chris Archer FD 9700 DK 10400
Opponent - HOU (Fiers) Park - @TB
FD - 36 DK - 19.82
Chris Archer against the Astros is never ideal, but I believe he has Clayton Kershaw upside today! As we all know by now, the Astros strikeout a ton. They sport a whooping 25.2 K% against right-handed pitchers (3rd in MLB). Chris Archer is a strikeout machine as he owns a 27.2 K% on the year. Do you see what I see with this Archer pick? I see a ton of upside!
While Archer's ceiling is through the roof, his floor is pretty low. The Astros own a 9.7 BB% (4th in MLB) and Archer can be wild, as he owns a 10.5 BB%. This is definitely not the best of mixes, but Archer is an excellent tournament play today, and will be low owned with Jake Arrieta taking the mound. If you play tournaments and/or love upside, Chris Archer is your guy!
Main Slate
Jose Fernandez FD 12000 DK 13800
Opponent - ARI (Godley) Park - @ARI
FD - 37.81 DK - 20.84
I'm going to start off by saying that I am aware of Jose's price tag, but it doesn't matter. He is one of the best pitchers in baseball and should be on your squad in cash games. He owns a 37.7 K% (highest in MLB)! His upside is through-the-roof which makes him an automatic start for me. The Dbacks own a 22.9 K% (9th in MLB), which puts Jose's ceiling even higher. Along with a 37.7 K%, Jose owns a 1.96 FIP. This kid has just been on a roll! Playing at Chase Field isn't ideal for a pitcher, but we can make an exception for one of the top arms in the game today. Don't get cute in cash games and try to fade Jose.
Jeff Samardzija FD 10000 DK 9000
Opponent - LAD (Kazmir) Park - @SF
FD - 32.69 DK - 18.23
The Giants' staff has done an amazing job with Samardzija. He owns a 3.56 FIP (31st in MLB) to go along with a 1.14 WHIP. Things did not look good for him last season, but he has turned it around and is a guy to consider on your DFS squads tonight.
He isn't a guy that provides your squad with a ton of upside, as he owns a 20.9 K%, but he is still in a great spot to deliver a quality start. He will be pitching at AT&T Enormous Park, which is one of the friendliest parks to hitters. I know he's facing the Dodgers and they have spent a ton of money on all their players, but their offense isn't good. They own a .300 wOBA (25th in MLB) and 90 wRC+ (21st in MLB) against right-handed pitching. Samardzija is an excellent play in all formats tonight.
So yeah, baseball season! And we've got some goodies you can take with you. At the end of the post, we have our MLB eBook that you really ought to check out before setting even a single daily fantasy MLB lineup. It's free, below.

What about these cheap-o’s on the early to fill Col bats? Like Gibson. Where do you all see the W out of these gutys for FanDuel? hahaha Bud Norris $$$ ,,,, Bud norris?!
@Cory I’m personally not a fan of the cheap pitchers today…. If I had to pick one of these guys — I would probably go with Mike Fiers as the cheap pitcher in the best spot. And I don’t say that with much confidence.
I prefer paying up for pitcher today
