Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Early Slate Stack Targets

Note: Coors is obviously in play, but I wanted to give you a few other options in this article.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Mike Wright (BAL)

Mike Wright sure surprised me in his last outing as he threw seven shutout innings against the Royals, but I'm expecting the Blue Jays to devour him today. Mike Wright owns a 16.6 K% and 1.45 HR/9, which is excellent news for the Blue Jays. They are a team that tends to strike out and hit dingers (.174 ISO), so these two stats are in their favor. Mike Wright also owns a 4.96 FIP, which makes this matchup even sweeter for Toronto bats. While the Blue Jays have been up-and-down this season, I think this is the perfect opportunity to load up on their bats. They will be low owned as Coors is on this slate and they are a team that has huge upside.

Boston Red Sox vs. Kyle Gibson (MIN)

The Red Sox have just been on a tear this season (offensively) and I expect them to continue that trend. They will be going up against Kyle Gibson, who has been battling injuries so far this season. He is still not 100%, so stacking the Red Sox against a righty, especially one that is banged up, is an excellent pivot from a Coors stack. The Red Sox own a .192 ISO (3rd in MLB), .358 wOBA (1st in MLB) and 122 wRC+ (2nd in MLB). These guys hit for power and average, which is why they are so good on offense. The entire lineup is in play for me today.
Main Slate

Seattle Mariners vs Colby Lewis (TEX)

Yes guys -- Colby Lewis owns a 3.20, but we all know that isn't going to stick for much longer. He owns a 4.62 FIP, so that ERA is going to go up at any moment now. He will be going up against a Seattle Mariners squad that has done some serious damage against right-handed pitchers. They own a .341 wOBA (4th in MLB) and 118 wRC+ (3rd in MLB). The Mariners are a team that is not talked about much around the league, but they are quietly putting up a nice season (34-27 record) and are smashing right-handed pitchers. They also own a .185 ISO (8th in MLB), so look for them to take advantage of Colby Lewis and his 37.8% hard contact rate.

It seems like I have a thing for the NL Central today, so go ahead and get exposure to all of the NL Central!

  • Doug, I love DFSR and the optimizer but I may have to question your sanity and the system if Stanton keeps showing up!! If not for his contract, he'd have been sent down to AAA for a stint by this time!!
