Pitching Targets

*Note - I wrote about Drew Pomeranz, Max Scherzer, and Kenta Maeda in the Main Article and will highlight a few other top options onboth the early slate and evening slate.*

Early Slate

John Lackey FD 10000 DK 12900
Opponent - PHI (Velasquez) Park - @PHI
FD - 37.74 DK - 20.4

The Cubs enter this game in Philadelphia as the second biggest favorite on the board putting John Lackey in a terrific spot to pick up a win today. He is having a fantastic start to the season with a 6-2 record and 2.88 ERA and 3.45 xFIp to back it up. The K rate(9.12 K/9)  has been elevated from his career mark with the walk rate(2.28 BB/9) slightly better as well. He will face the Phillies who rank 28th in wOBA(.291) and wRC+(79) vs. right handed pitching while striking out over 21% of the time. There is a chance this game gets  a late start due to rain in the area but once it gets started it looks like smooth sailing all afternoon for Lackey and Co.

Evening Slate

Noah Syndergaard FD 10600 DK 12400
Opponent - PIT (Taillon) Park - @PIT
FD - 37.9 DK - 21.09

If Scherzer and his inconsistency don't tickle your fancy, then take the saving on both sites and get Thor into your lineups tonight. He has been extremely impressive in just his second season in the big leagues with a 6-2 record to go with a 1.91 ERA which should stay fairly constant going forward as his 2.03 xFIP would suggest. He is striking out an elite amount of batters(11.46 K/9) while walking just over one batter per nine innings. He has also brought his ground ball rate(56%) up 10% from last years mark which has brought the HR/FB rate down to 9.3% on the season. He gets a tough matchup vs. the Pirates who rank 6th in wOBA vs. right handed pitching but it doesn't scare me as the Pirates have struggled lately losing six of their last 10 games and scoring three runs or less in eight of those games. Oh ya and Thor has risen to an elite level of pitcher and can dominate any team at any time.

  • What do you think of a combo of D. Price and K. Maeda? I like both their matchups and I feel like thats the best combo of pitching to allow to get some of the expensive bats I like today.

  • I like. Maeda is a heavy favorite at home. Price gets a positive park shift despite the possible reduction in K's as the Giants only K 17% vs. LH pitching.

  • Okay, I'll take that. I did factor in the ballpark for Price and that they've never seen him before. they also have a good bit of left handed bats. I'm not real big on the k% being so low because that really has everything to do with what lefties they've seen this year.
