Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.

Stack Targets

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Eduardo Rodriguez

So, Eduardo Rodriguez is probably a cut above the average random young pitcher. He's a solid prospect out of the Red Sox system that probably has a long term future in the rotation. But... he's also a 23 year old with a K/9 worse than 6 in the minors this year. You can obviously play any of the middle of the line-up right handed bruisers - Bautista, Encarnacion, or Donaldson, depending on who's playing - but you could certainly consider splashing Devon Travis and even the left handed Michael Saunders, who's been platoon neutral this season and has only been a little worse against lefties for his career.

You can also consider sending this stack the other way if you have tons of cash to burn, but the Red Sox are so expensive that I see more value on the Blue Jays side.

The Washington Nationals vs. Jon Moscot

I had a few nice things to say about the young Eduardo Rodriguez, but unfortunately, not even Jon Moscot's mother can find anything nice to say about his short major league track record. The 28 innings he's amassed in the majors have him sitting at an eye-popping 6.14 ERA and 5.84 xFIP. And before you're all, "James, small sample size!" - he wasn't exactly good in the minors, either. He posted a generally lousy 5.2 K/9 and mediocre 3 BB/9 in AAA in 2014 and 2015, and the Reds just shrugged their shoulders and put him in the majors anyway.

The strategy here is just to play anyone within 2 line-up slots of Bryce Harper, who might physically kill Jon Moscot with a batted ball today. Murphy is the obvious stack partner, of course, but Anthony Rendon has been less than horrible for his career against RHP, Wislon Ramos has an .886 OPS against righties this year, and Ben Revere is significantly better against righties than lefties as well. Double-stacking the Blue Jays and the Nationals with the lineup optimizer today just looks so sexy.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Jake Peavy

I like this one considerably less than the other two, but then again, so will most people. Getting separation from the field in big tournaments is often the difference between a solid cash and a huge score, so this is definitely worth a look.

On a high level all the signs are here for a big Cardinals day. Peavy is a half a decade removed from his best stuff, and his 4.76 xFIP will rank out as one of the worst in the majors among qualified starters if he winds up making it through the season. And did I mention that he has put together that number with the best home pitcher's park in baseball? He has.

The Cards, meanwhile, are chock full of righty crushers. Matt Carpenter will be a chalk play, but you can also build around the middle of the lineup in Brandon Moss (.901 OPS vs. RHP) and Matt Adams (.935 OPS vs. RHP). Matt Holiday is more than respectable against righties as well, and I imagine you could get separation by playing Stephen Piscotty even though he's more of a lefty smasher. Heck, even Aldemys Diaz has posted a .900+ OPS in a small sample vs. righties this season.

If you'd prefer to go off-beat with your stacks, this is a very solid one.

Want to stack other teams? You can! Just use the stacking feature with the lineup optimizer and have a blast.
