Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
(Hitter stats provided are vs. the handiness of the pitcher they are facing)
Chicago Cubs vs. Edwin Escobar (CIN)
Edwin Escobar has only had one start this season, so I won't judge him based on that start. Even though he gave up 10 hits and 7 earned run, in 3 1/3 innings of work, I won't stack against him because of that (hard to ignore, but way too small of a sample size). Instead, I am stacking against him because he is facing the Chicago Cubs and they devour southpaws.
On the year, the Cubs sport a .347 wOBA (4th in MLB), 117 wRC+ (4th in MLB) and .168 ISO (8th in MLB) against left-handed pitchers. They have been one of the best offenses in baseball and can put up runs in bunches, so they are always a great team to stack and today is no different. Some of the guys to stack against Escobar are: Dexter Fowler (.354 wOBA), Ben Zobrist (.440 wOBA), Kris Bryant (.288 ISO) and Javier Baez (.502 wOBA). Of course, you can go with Anthony Rizzo, Jason Heyward and Jorge Soler, but those are my top four guys to stack. You have to love the platoon advantage those four guys pocess going up against Escobar, who is making his second start this season.
Chicago White Sox vs. Mike Pelfrey (DET)
Mike Pelfrey has not been too good this season, so stacking the other Chicago squad is a great idea. On the year, Pelfrey is sporting a 5.63 FIP, 1.79 HR/9 and 3.7 K-BB%. You can expect the Sox to make a lot of contact and do some damage against a not-so-good pitcher. The White Sox were off to a hot start to start the year, but have cooled down quite a bit. They don't destroy right-handed pitchers like some other teams in the league, but facing Mike Pelfrey will give these guys an advantage. Some of the guys I am looking to stack against him are: Jose Abreu (.143 ISO), Adam Eaton (.304 wOBA) (he's much better vs. righties -- don't focus on his wOBA this season) and Todd Fraizer (.254 ISO). They don't have numbers to brag about (with the exception of the Todd Father), but they have a beautiful matchup, so they are a nice affordable stack.
New York Yankees vs Tyler Wilson (BAL)
The New York Yankees have not been the sexiest of offenses this season, but I love their matchup against Tyler Wilson today. On the year, Wilson is sporting a 4.70 FIP to go along with a 6.8 K/BB%. He's a very similar pitcher to Pelfrey (periphials wise) as they both have a high FIP, low K% and high SIERA. Pelfrey just has a higher hard-hit rate, and gives up more long balls (not a big margin though). Pitching at Camden Yards won't help Wilson's cause, especially with heavy winds are expected to be blowing out to left-center field. The guys that I'm looking to target from the Yankees are: Carlos Beltran (.370 wOBA) Brett Gardner (.350 wOBA) Jacoby Ellsbury (.340 wOBA) and Alex Rodriguez (he's A-Rod). A Mariners-Rangers stack seems to be Vegas' favorite, but don't sleep on an Orioles-Yankees stack, especially the Yankees!
