Since the game where he gave up seven earned runs to the Cubs on May 6th, Scherzer has really turned it around. He has gone on to win two of his last three starts while limiting the opposition to two earned runs in each start while striking out 38 batters. That includes the complete game gem vs. the Tigers where he tied the major league record for strikeouts in game with 20. He has an average walk rate(2.44 BB/9) but has been hurt by the home run with a 20.6% HR/FB rate which is over 10% higher than his career mark. Look for this to normalize going forward. He is an elite strikeout pitcher(11.4 K/9) who faces a tough matchup vs. the Cardinals who rank 2nd in team wOBA vs. right handed pitching but have been struggling as of last losing three straight and four of their last five. All things considered, this is a great spot to spend up on Scherzer who might be avoided by those scared of the Cardinals offense.

I won't be trusting him in cash tonight but at his current price point, he makes a terrific GPP option on both sites. After a disastrous start to the season where he gave up four or more earned runs in four of his first six starts, it seems he has righted the ship. After beating the Dodgers with an average performance(5.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 K/2BB), he picked up a no decision in a dominating performance against the Orioles. He pitched into the 8th inning limiting the O's to three hits while striking out a career high 12 batters. He didn't give up an earned run but wasn't a factor in the decision. Tonight he will look to stop a streaking Astros team that ranks middle of the pack in team wOBA(.315) vs. right handed pitching but have the third highest strikeout rate at 25.5%.

Thoughts on Sanchez going against Boston and Fulmer against Oakland?
I'd be more interested in Fulmer. Boston a great hitting team in a bad pitcher's park
