Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Stack Targets
New York Yankees vs. R.A. Dickey (Blue Jays)
I really like the matchup the Yankees have today against R.A. Dickey, especially in the hitter friendly Yankee Stadium. Dickey is in the twilight of his career, and his age is certainly causing a decline in production. His struggles this season are largely due to his lack of success against left-handed hitters (something the Yankees have plenty of), as evidenced by his xFIP of 5.07, BB/9 rate of 4.64, and the fact that his fly ball % and ground ball % are exactly the same (40%). This last part is especially important because the ball tends to carry quite a bit to right field at Yankee Stadium, so I could definitely see a couple of balls ending up in the bleachers tonight. For this stack our projection system likes guys like Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran, Brett Gardner and Dustin Ackley (it also likes Teixeira but I'm not sold on him). I think Ackley in particular provides some serious upside given how low his price tag is and the fact that for his career he's 6 for 13 with 2 home runs against Dickey.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Doug Fister (Astros)
The Orioles offense has been struggling a bit as of late (partially due to Jered Weaver's massively ridiculous strike zone, but I won't even get into that), but they have a nice matchup with Doug Fister to turn things around. As Austyn mentioned in the main picks, Fister has been getting hammered against lefties this season and has such a measly K/9 rate against them (4.67) that Baltimore's higher strikeout % risk is reduced significantly. Any pitcher who's allowing a line drive + fly ball % of greater than 55% and a hard hit % of over 38% is just asking for trouble, and that's where Fister is currently at. I love a lefty stack here, as our system likes guys such as Chris Davis, Matt Weiters, Ryan Flaherty, and Pedro Alvarez. If you want a little more safety, our system also likes Manny Machado and Adam Jones, both of which have hit right-handed pitching better than left-handed pitching this season. While Minute Maid park isn't quite the launching pad that is Camden Yards, it's still an above-average hitters park so I'm looking for some good things from Baltimore today.
Boston Red Sox vs. Jorge De La Rosa (Rockies)
I certainly do not envy the position Jorge De La Rosa finds himself in, coming off the DL to face the most explosive offense in baseball on the road. He's got probably the worst hitting line against right-handed batters that I've seen in my life this season, allowing a .395/.465/.684 line and a wOBA of 4.88 (!!!). Need some more numbers? How about a HR/9 rate of 3 and a hard hit % of 36.8%. Now you might be thinking, "oh well he just gets hurt at home, right?" Wrong. While he has allowed 6 of his 7 HR's at Coors field this season, his ERA is actually significantly higher on the road this season, and is actually about the same for his career. Now Red Sox bats are going to cost you, but the upside potential that this run-scoring machine has is just too high to ignore. From a pure points perspective, the system really likes guys like Hanley Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, and Mookie Betts. A guy that I'm big on, although our system doesn't necessarily love is Chris Young, who's hitting .375 against left-handed pitching this season (he's at .265 for his career) to go along with a wOBA of .462 and a soft hit % of just 11.1%. If you can find some value pitching, I could easily see this stack coming up big in a GPP tonight.

FYI: You guys haven’t posted the main picks story yet. Just the stacks and pitcher breakdowns. Thanks for all your insight.
It was there, gone now.
Just an FYI, In the optimizer, some of the pitching matchups are incorrect. Examples: Yunel Escobar is facing LAA (Kershaw) and Trotter/MIller facing MIA (Gonzalez).
Thanks,
Matt
Hey everyone, the MLB picks article was accidentally in the NBA tab, but now it’s located in the MLB tab.
I think it’s a mistake to remove the UPDATE section. The ‘must start’ players was arguable my favorite piece. Sometimes you’d nail it and those guys would go off!
This is positive criticism as I enjoy reading the site daily. Do you plan on bringing this back?
