Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Mike Pelfrey (Tigers)
Because the Phillies offense has been up and down for most of the season, I'm sure this seems like a strange suggestion. That is until you see who they're up against. Mike Pelfrey is one of those guys that our system loves to hate, and it seems like every time he's on the mound I'm stacking against him. Here's why. Pelfrey has been horrendous this season against left-handed batters, allowing a line of .378/.433/.598, a wOBA of .437 and a BB/9 of 3.66. Heck he's even been pretty bad against righties too, nearly walking as many batters as he's struck out. But clearly the value here is stacking left-handed bats, and the Phillies have plenty of guys to choose from. Our system is really big on guys like Cesar Hernandez, Maikel Franco, Freddy Galvis, and Odubel Herrera. The system also really, really likes Ryan Howard (he's got a career line of .356/.463/.600 against Pelfrey in 45 career AB), but he's been struggling so much this season that he's a risky pick at best. Still with 3 or 4 potentially cheap guys, this is the perfect stack to compliment a high-dollar pitcher, such as, oh I don't know, Clayton Kershaw.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Brandon Finnegan (Reds)
I went with a Dodgers stack yesterday and as long as you grabbed Puig and/or Kendrick it turned out pretty well. Today the Dodgers have another great matchup against a lefty who struggles with control in Brandon Finnegan. For the season, Finnegan is averaging a BB/9 of 4.25 to go along with an ERA of 4.44 and an xFIP of 4.69. He's very susceptible to the long ball as well, as he's giving up 1.66 HR's/9 on the season (and this number jumps to 2.11 HR's/9 against right-handed batters). I love a right-handed stack here for many of the same reasons I like a Phillies stack (affordability), although if you want to play Kershaw you can only grab 3 batters from this game. My favorite guys today from this game are Yasiel Puig, Howie Kendrick, Yasmani Grandal/A.J. Ellis (whoever starts), and Enrique Hernandez. I'm not in love with the ballpark factor here, but it's hard to pick against the Dodgers at home when they're up against a guy like Finnegan.
Chicago White Sox vs. Cody Anderson (Indians)
Many of you might be unfamiliar with Cody Anderson's body of work this season, so let me paint you a word picture real quick. Hitting lines of .342/.383/.653 against left-handed hitters, a line of .373/.400/.597 against right-handed hitters, a HR/9 rate of 2.76, and an ERA a smidge under 8. Starting to get the picture? Any way you look at it this guy has been getting lit up regardless of who's standing in the batter's box, and I don't see that trend reversing today against the White Sox. This stack is more expensive than the previous two, but I'd like to think the upside is a little higher too given the quality of hitters the White Sox have by comparison. Our system really likes Jose Abreu, Brett Lawrie, Melky Cabrera, and Jimmy Rollins from a PPD standpoint, but also has guys like Adam Eaton and Todd Frazier putting up some big numbers. U.S. Cellular Field is a pretty good hitters park for guys with power, so if you can afford to grab some of the White Sox's big bats here the payoff could be huge.
Note: This is the 2nd game of the doubleheader so it might be risky because it will be tough to get lineup information about this game

thoughts of a Texas stack at home v. Tropeano??? I bailed on the Indians because that 2nd game wouldn't theoretically start until about 2 hours after lineups lock. I bailed on the White Sox too for the same reason
I like it a lot. Highest expected total on the board.
And I'm totally with you. Doubleheaders are a true nightmare both from a lineup-setting perspective and for us on the data piece. Passing players through the data twice sucks.
Spent the weekend in Iowa and man it sucked not being allowed to play- good thing I locked lineups in Friday before I left Chicago. Hopefully it gets through legislation in Illinois- I would be so bummed out if it didn't!
2 part question:
1- your picks article has 4 Indians but then you don't mention them in the stack article? Is that because of the double header confusion? I have Gomes, Santana, Kipnis, and Byrd in one lineup, are you a fan?
2- I was a big fan of the "must start" players in the UPDATE article. Will you be bringing that back?
Thanks
