Pitching Targets

Note - We discussed Justin Verlander, Johnny Cueto and Francisco Liriano in the Main Article and will be going over a few more options below

Rich Hill FD 9200 DK 8000
Opponent - TEX (Perez) Park - @OAK
FD - 34.74 DK - 18.05

I mentioned Verlander in the main article and Rich Hill is the only other pitcher I am considering in the early slate. He has won two straight and four of his five starts and sits with an impressive 2.68 ERA on the season. He has limited opponents to two earned runs or less in all but two starts this year and holds  a strikeout rate very close to 11 K/9. Hill's biggest issue this season has been the free passes as he is giving up over four walks per nine innings but the Rangers should help normalize that as they walk less than 6% of the time vs. left handed pitching while striking out over 20% of the time. Hill should also get some run support today(vs. M. Perez) and have a great shot at picking up the win. He is safe in all formats.
Gio Gonzalez FD 8600 DK 9300
Opponent - NYM (Colon) Park - @NYM
FD - 34.63 DK - 18.75

The Nats/Mets game comes with one of the lowest totals on the night making it a great target for starting pitching. I am not feeling 42 year old Bartolo Colon and his new found power stroke and will turn to turn to Gio Gonzalez tonight. He has struggled to pick up the wins this year(1-1 in 7 starts) but has been impressive allowing opponents more than two earned runs in just one start this year. While the K rate is average(7.5 K/9) the Mets should boost it today as they rank 20th in team wOBA(.302) vs left handed pitching while striking out over 26% of the time. Gio is safe in all formats tonight.

David Price FD 10500 DK 10600
Opponent - KC (Volquez) Park - @KC

Price will make the start for the Red Sox tonight in game two of the double header against the Royals in Kansas City. Price has started the year in a very odd way. He has a good record(5-1) with an elite K rate(12.2 K/9) but has struggled to a 6.00 ERA which has been the result of four awful starts(all against the AL East) where he allowed five or more earned runs. Look a little closer at the numbers and you can see he is a lot closer to the pitcher we expect. His 2.72 xFIP and brutal .379 BABIP suggests that he is due for some positive regression. The Royals have somewhat limited their strikeouts(19%) vs. left handed pitching but sit 22nd in team wOBA(.297) vs. southpaws. The Red Sox are favorites in one of the lowest run totals(7) on the slate. The Price is right!
