Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Stack Targets
Toronto Blue Jays Right Handed Power Bats vs. Martin Perez(TEX)
You have heard the story before. Load up on Jays right handed bats vs. left handed pitching. Over the past two seasons they own a league best .347 wOBA vs. left handed pitching with an above average .181 ISO. They will get another very favorable matchup vs. Martin Perez on Friday as the Jays travel to Arlington. Perez has been much worse against right handed bats this season as he is giving up a .327 wOBA against as compared to a .236 wOBA against left handed batters. He strikes out less than six batters per nine innings and his 4.84 xFIP has us believe he isn't pitching as well as his 3.51 ERA suggests. He is also pitchign with a .250 BABIP which is over 50 points lower than his carer average. Look for Perez's numbers and the Jays hitters to come back to earth in this matchup.
New York Mets vs. Jon Gray(COL)
This game comes with the same total as the Jays/Rangers game and it is played in Coors Field which just so happens to be the #1 hitters park in baseball. I definitely favor the road team here for stacking purposes as Matt Harvey has really started to urn his season around winning three of his last for games. The Mets will face young Jon Gray who has been a tale of two pitchers when looking at home/road splits. He has been very impressive in his two road starts going a 6.0 and 7.0 innings pitched with a total of 16 strikeouts and three walks while limiting the opposition to just two earned runs. It has been ugly at Coors however as he has gone 5.0 and 3.2 innings pitched in his two starts allowing 11 earned runs on 16 hits. Gray is top tier pitching prospect with a ton of K upside(11.63 K/9 rate) but will always be limited due to his home park. He is a ground ball pitcher(47.3%) but when he gives up flyballs he gets into trouble(18.2% HR/FB rate). He has performed very similar against left and right handed hitters so stack the top six of the Mets order with confidence.
Boston Red Sox vs. Lance McCullers(HOU)
This stack has more to do with the Red Sox than the pitcher they are facing. The Red Sox are the hottest team in baseball having won five straight and have scored double digit runs in four straight games. THey will face Lance McCullers tonight who is making his season debut for the Astros, and while he has been impressive in AAA has not faced major league hitting since last season. He will be faced with the very tough task of travelling to Fenway Park to attempt slow down the Red Sox bats that rank 2nd in team wOBA(.363) vs. right handed pitching. Almost every hitter in the Red Sox lineup is hot right now including Betts(4 game hit streak), Pedroia(5 game hit streak), Bogaerts(7 game hit streak), Ortiz(4 game hit streak), Hanley Ramirerz(4 game hit streak) and even digging further down the lineup Jackie Bradley Jr. presents terrific value with a hit in 18 straight games now.
