Stacking in DFS MLB is such an important concept if you’re looking to take down a big tournament on FanDuel or DraftKings. It’s also a good way to diversify cash games because the variance in baseball can mean wild swings (ahem) in the scoring on a particular slate. The concept is easy. You want to pile players from one or two teams into your lineups because those guys compound scores by helping each other score runs when the going is good.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Kendall Graveman (Athletics)
Park - Camden Yards
The Orioles are a team that I like torget on days they are at home against a bad right handed pitcher. That is exactly what is going on today which is why they are my number 1 overall stack. Kendall Graveman has been bad against both righties and lefties, however, he has been much worse against righties as evidenced by his 2015 wOBA of .342. The Orioles will run out a lineup with 5 righties and 4 lefties. My favorite guys to roster in a stack are ones that offer upside on their own as well as with the team as a whole. Therefore, my 5 favorite Orioles are Chris Davis, Mark Trumbo, Manny Machado, Joey Rickard and Adam Jones. These guys are all very cheap on FanDuel an I do prefer them there. The Athletics bullpen is nothing to write home about this year as they have given up the 8th highest wOBA in the league thus far and that is not park adjusted. This stack is a great option in all formats and I don't mind it in cash games either.
Detroit Tigers vs. Martin Perez (Rangers)
Park - Comerica Park
This game is currently sitting at 9, the highest of the day. Martin Perez enters this game coming off a game where he somehow shut down the Toronto Blue Jays. Don't be fooled, Perez is not a good pitcher and he struggles a ton against righties. In 2015, Perez gave up a .336 wOBA and a 3.9% HR/FB rate. That rate is far too low and tells me that there will be a bunch of home runs off of Perez this season. The Tigers could certainly start that trend as they have a bunch of hitters in the lineup that smash lefties. Miguel Cabrera, Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler, J.D. Martinez and Victor Martinez all hit lefties extremely well as evidenced by their .341+ wOBA over the past few years. The Tigers stack is my second favorite option on the day, however, they both off the same upside. The reason I am not all in on Perez is the fact that he has had a bit more movement on his secondary pitches. While that could certainly just be some luck early on, it could also be an improvement he has made in his game.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Ross Stripling (Dodgers)
Park - Rogers Centre
The Blue Jays are finally hitting the ball! Even though Kershaw dominated them yesterday, they were putting hard contact on the ball and you could just tell they are completely out of their month long slump. Ross Stripling is a very underwhelming pitcher and has been slightly below average this year. While the inning sample size is far too small to use, we can look at his pitch grades. Stripling sits at 90 with his fastball and ranges all the way down to 76 with the cutter. The thing that worries me is the fact that he doesn't have any real off-speed pitch. He has a changeup but only throws it 8% of the time and it is not effective. The Blue Jays bats will be sitting on the fastball and sending it a far way when they get it. My 5 favorite Jays bats are Encarnacion, Bautista, Donaldson, Tulowitzki and Saunders.
