Baseball Picks Daily Fantasy Expert Advice
Daily Fantasy Baseball News and Updates for FanDuel and DraftKings - 4/29/2016
Welcome to the daily MLB updates and news article. We'll try and update it right up to line-up locks with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!
Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock today.
By the way - we keep our projection system updated with all of the batting lineup changes as they occur throughout the day right up until lineup lock. Every day. If you want access to that system so you can cut out a lot of the research element, click the button below!
What We Know
Weather in todays games doesn't really look all that bad. Los Angeles VS Texas and Indians VS Phillies are the two that I would certainly keep an eye on come roster lock time. I also am a bit worried about the Indians Phillies game because of the idea of a long rain delay and the starters may not come back out onto the field. Again, check the weather implications closer to game time. Otherwise we are looking at another action packed slate of DFS!
Tournament Stacks
Cleveland Indians
The Philadelphia Phillies are by no means a good baseball team. Their offense ranks in the bottom half of the league, more so toward the bottom 10%. After sweeping the Nationals in Washington this past series, I see them slumping against Corey Kluber and the Indians dramatically today. Kluber really looked back to his normal self in his last outing after getting rocked by teams including the Mets in previous starts. I look for him to give a big effort today, and the Indians bats to do some damage on Aaron Nola as well. The optimizer also produced Jason Kipnis and Francisco Lindor for today's best plays, and I couldn't agree more. Kipnis has been ripping the cover off the ball in the past week, and Lindor is simply an on base machine. If you're like me and love playing numerous players from one roster, get these guys active.
Detroit Tigers
Miguel Cabrera, J.D Martinez, Ian Kinsler, Justin Upton. Need I say more? These guys have been hitting quality pitchers better lately than I've seen all season. I'm super impressed at how guys have been contributing up and down the lineup. Phil Hughes has been anything but impressive to start the year, and I think the Tigers will need to score a ton of runs today if they want to compete, as they have a virtual nobody in Mike Fulmer on the mound. It should be an extremely high scoring game in Minnesota tonight and I would definitely get some Tigers bats active. Strongly consider paying up for Miggy. He's really starting to look like an MVP caliber and more importantly healthy player over these last two weeks.
Sneaky Pitcher
John Lester
There are two guys in our research that I think you can get away with targeting in today's slate that will be relatively if not significantly low owned. The first- John Lester. I don't know what it is, but the guy continues to be low owned in tournaments. My guess that I have just seen him pitch on nights with guys like Price, King Felix, and other great pitchers that people don't want to put up the close to 10K salary to reserve him a spot in the lineup. Today he faces off against the Atlanta Braves, who if you've watched lately know are not a threat offensively by any means. Their bats are week, pitching is weaker, and they have no business getting on base against Lester in Chicago today. If your playing the all day slate, I really like him today.
Juan Nicasio
The other pitcher at quite a value price is Juan Nicasio of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The bats and pitching are definitely clicking for the Pirates as of late. To add to that, I think his price is a crime. He has some nasty pitches in his arsenal, and the Reds are one of those hit or miss teams in terms of run support. I'm not counting on Nicasio to throw a perfect game, but he certainly can get you the K's and outs that you need for a successful value pitcher in a tournament.
The "Every Lineup" Guys
Jason Kipins
Kipnis has really impressed me as of late. I have him on my actual season long fantasy team and am loving the fact he's reached base in his last 7 games. To add to that, his average is almost up over .300 and he has just looked like he's seeing the ball extremely well. He has never faced Nola but I have confidence in the Indians to show their poise and bat around the young right hander tonight.
Fransico Lindor
Lindor showing up all over the optimizer is by no means surprising. Unless you're going to pay almost 1/10th of your salary to go out and get a guy in Trevor Story, or take a real hit or miss risk like Troy Tulowitzki, Lindor is a pretty safe SS play to get on base. Besides that, tonight is one of those nights I can see him having a 3 hit game and exceeding value tremendously. He's never faced Nola before, but in a slim SS area where you really don't know what you're going to get night in and night out, I love Lindor as a middle tier play for the night.
Mike Trout
Outside of that Indians-Phillies game the system LOVES Mike Trout today, and why wouldn't they? He owns Colby Lewis even outside of Anaheim - posting an insane 12 for 20 with 4HR and 11 RBI. He hasn't been meeting value as of late, but anytime he's in my lineup I feel good. He is without a doubt a play worth paying up for in tonight's contests.
Manny Machado.
This guy really frustrates me to no end, I played him three consecutive nights before last night where I took the night off from DFS to enjoy the NFL Draft. What does he do? Grand Slam. 5RBI's. You know, the usual stuff a guy like Machado is capable of. I expect him to have a little bit more of a challenge against Rodon tonight, but Machado loves Camden Yards and he's extremely high on my must play list tonight.
One other note: There are big differences between DraftKings and FanDuel pricing so the optimal lineups are looking quite different.
These are players that show up in each of the top 10 lineups as produced by our lineup optimizer. This doesn't necessarily mean that they're "safe," it just means that their projected weighted-mean point total is a solid building block for a great lineup foundation today.
Good luck out there today! If you want access to all of our numbers, get started with a free trial below of our lineup optimizer, on us!

Nola isn’t pitching for the Phillies today. It’s Adam Morgan
With my current lineup. I don’t have enough to fit Kluber and Hernandez. Is there another pitcher recommended for cash games besides Kluber?
Zac, I would probably look to move off Felix Hernandez vs Kansas City. Bottom line is pitchers get most of of their upside from strikeouts and the Royals don’t strike out much. Maybe pivot to Smiley or all the way down to a guy Nicaiso, who may be very underpriced on both sites for today. The $$ Nicaiso will save you will open a bigger bat or two.
Nicaso looks like a decent start
What do we think of a Marlins Stack?
Possibilities of any games getting postponed due to rain today?
Just the Indians/ Phillys game looks like it might get rained out or have a long delay
According to Kevin Roth on roto grinders the Indians phillies game looks almost completely clear now all evening.
Lock em and load em
No Santana tonight
Stanton not playing tonight, rest.
The Texas Rangers game looks very iffy weatherwise according to weather.com…anyone have any info on that situation?
I am right now running lineups without that game. Which stinks
It’s raining heavily down here in Arlington, Tx. I’m personally staying away from the Angels, Rangers game. It doesn’t look good right now.
Is Ichiro playable tonight? Leadoff at $2500 dk looks very appetizing. No upside but as a pure punt play for cash games. Anyone considering?
He doesn’t project to do anything but slap singles around. That’s why I might avoid
As a strict punt, I considered for a second. The point in playing Ichiro isn’t his upside…it is to save money, and for him to be driven in by batters behind him. Stanton is out tonight though, so Ichiro is no longer worth that deep of a punt. I don’t know why Vegas has Marlin run total so high today to be honest.
It looks like the radar has shifted and weather.com has backed down a lot on the rain potential for the Rangers/Angels. I think it is a bit risky, but I am going to roll with Trout and co.
I’m running lineups split between having that game and not
there a Tornado warning in Arlington Texas. I love the Angels but this game is risky. Very risky.
Not brave enough to play nicaso. i’ll go stras and kluber for 50/50
Yeah. I’m on a full Stras fade
Thx Doug ya he doesn’t steal I thought he did a bit and with Stanton out now that doesn’t help.
Good call on Nicasio. Took out Felix in my main slate and had Kluber and nicasio. Thanks all
And on 6 pitches this tool for the Nationals is about to blow the win for Strasburg!! Wth???
