Welcome back to another night of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. Tuesday night in the NHL is filled with playoff meaningful matchups as we inch closer to the playoffs. In the Eastern Conference the Pens face the Islanders while the Flyers face the Red Wings in what is becoming a tight battle for the Metropolitan Division and Wild Card. Out West, the Stars travel to face the Kings in a matchup between division leaders. While the Kings are playing on back to back nights, they are coming off a statement win vs. the Blackhawks. Let's take a look at some core plays for this evening.
If you have any questions throughout the day be sure to join the conversation in the comments section below. Also, be sure to check LeftWingLock to get confirmation on all of the starting goalies for Thursday. Now onto the picks.
Opponent - TOR
FD - 9600 DK - 8000
He has been a key part of the Lightning's push over the last month putting them in the race for the Atlantic Division title. He is coming off a shutout where he stopped 37 shots and has gone 7-2-1 with a .945 save % and two shutouts in his last 10 starts. The Lightning get a favorable on Tuesday as they travel to Toronto as big road favorites. Fire him up in all formats tonight.
Opponent - SJ
FD - 9200 DK - 8700
The Bruins and Rask have faced some reverse splits this season as they are a much stronger team on the road. They are second to only the Sharks for the best road record but sit right near the bottom when looking at home records. He is coming off a win vs. the Islanders and has been terrific lately with a 6-1-2 record and .936 save % over his last nine starts. Trust the narrative and roll with the B's tonight.
Also Consider - Steve Mason - Philadelphia Flyers vs. DET
Opponent - NYI
FD - 9800 DK - 7900
The Penguins are in a tight race in the Eastern Conference playoff race sitting two points back of 3rd in the Metropolitan Division and one point up on Detroit for the first wild card spot. Sid the Kid has carried the offense lately with 12 points in his last eight games and added 27 shots and a +7 rating. With the loss of Malkin for at least six weeks, Crosby will need to keep the team on his back if they hope to play into the post season and possibly get Malkin back for a Cup run.
Stack with - Patric Hornqvist, Chris Kunitz
Opponent - TOR
FD - 6700 DK - 5600
He has been just short of spectacular as a second line center for the Bolts. During a stretch where teammate and superstar Steven Stamkos has been struggling, Johnson has tallied nine points in his last 10 games providing a high floor with 25 shots on goal and an incredible +11 rating. With his linemate Nikita Kucherov out with injury the second line stack just became cheaper to won entering an elite matchup vs. the Leafs.
Stack with - Ondrej Palat, Vladislav Namestnikov
Also Consider - Aleksander Barkov - Florida Panthers @ MON
Opponent - CAR
FD - 9700 DK - 8900
Proceed with caution. He has been dealing with the same injury that kept him out of the All Star game but is currently playing through it. Great opportunity for GPP's as this news could very well push his ownership down on Tuesday. It's a risky play but he is an elite player with the biggest fantasy upside in the league. It helps that the Caps get a home game vs. the Hurricanes who rank in the bottom half of the league in goals against and own one of the worst road records in the Eastern Conference.
Stack with - Nicklas Backstrom, TJ Oshie
Opponent - SJ
FD - 4500 DK - 4200
He is red hot right now and at a price under $4.5K he makes a great value play tonight. He is coming off a two goal game and has scored in three of his last four and tallied six goals in his last 10 games. He is playing second line winger with Krejci and Eriksson on the leagues 3rd ranked offense.
Stack with - David Krejci, Loui Eriksson
Opponent - NYI
FD - 7500 DK - 7000
When looking at the elite D men tonight there are three in play. Karlsson for the Sens has been struggling lately making him, most likely, the lowest owned of the three. Burns has been hot but at a sky high price might also be a but lower owned and perfect for GPP's. My choice for tonight in all formats will be Letang who has been consistent lately and comes at a $1300 discount on DK and a $600 discount on FanDuel from Burns. He has tallied 8 points in his last 10 games with 23 shots, 15 blocks and a +3 rating for the Pens fighting for a playoff position.
Opponent - LA
FD - 4300 DK - 4700
With the injuries to the Stars D men, the newly acquired Russell has played a huge role lately. He has seen his ice time climb to nearly 28 minutes a a game and has tallied four points in his last three games. His best value comes on DraftKings where he remains under $5K and provides a very safe floor with blocks. In those past four games he has blocked 16 shots and averaged over 3 fantasy points per game.
Also Consider - Matt Dumba - Minnesota Wild @ OTT

Tough night for the group guys. Such is life in DFS sometimes.
We all absolutely loved those lineups but apparently teams had other ideas. I mean, the Blues just beat Chicago, Anaheim and Dallas. They roll into Calgary and give up 7 goals? Really?
Chris has another great article here with a ton of great matchups and recommendations for tonight. Going to start putting a few together and will share shortly. Let's get back in the saddle tonight and make some money!
It was funny cause I was listening to NHL radio on Sirius just before lineup lock and the guy calls the Calgary game. Says the blues are coming off huge emotional wins vs. rivals and are due for a let down. Damn!!!!
Oh well. Back at it tonight.
Yes,, in hockey that is huge,, it's beyond the numbers. The kings are in the same boat tonight,, the red wings lost to the leafs for the same reason, it's just something to tread into when picking between two players, hockey is very emotional.
If you need a cheap option at D tonight. Barbeiro from Montreal is on the Top PP and getting 23+ ice time with Subban out.
I also like Muzzin and Martinez from LA. Dallas is horrible vs opposing scoring D.
Thanks again Chris for the article. Love Bishop tonight as you mentioned above
Bishop is out tonight, just checked left wing lock
Muzzin is terrific on both sites for cash games as he gets like 3 shots on goal every game and doesn't hurt the +/-. Barbeiro nice cheap option as well. I always like Matt Dumba for MIN as well.
Good call on Dumba. I want a piece of the Wild tonight in some fashion. I think locks for my cash games tonight are Sid, Tyler Johnson, Barbeiro, and some D-man from LA. I should start I only play Draft Kings.
Don't forget I mentioned Calgary in my comments yesterday...lol
I like that Barkov gets a mention, he has been killing it lately... Just a question, Which players should he be stacked with? Im still tryib to get to grips with NHL :/
Yes Sorry Marcel. I meant to mention that last night while I watched my Cash game go up in Flames!! See what I did there?
Antony - Barkov plays top line with Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau. This combo plays together on the powerplay as well.
Thoughts on Montoya tonight? He has a good chance for a win and he's due for a good outing. He's definitely been up and down for awhile. I think he'll get scored on but he should get a win. Going cheap tonight at goalie seems like a good option tonight. All the good obvious options are pretty expensive.
I don't hate Steve Mason between the pipes either. I think him and Montoya have the best chance for wins tonight.
