Welcome back to another night of daily fantasy hockey with DFSR. Tonight we have 6 games on the NHL schedule with some terrific matchups for fantasy as five of the bottom 10 teams in defense are playing. There are two teams (NYI, NSH) playing on back to back nights with the Islanders also playing a third game in four nights.

If you have any questions throughout the day be sure to join the conversation in the comments section below. Also, be sure to check LeftWingLock to get confirmation on all of the starting goalies for Sunday. Now onto the picks.

Goaltenders

John Gibson
Opponent - COL
FD - 8200 DK - 7700
Frederik Andersen
Opponent - COL
FD - 9000 DK - 7800

Whoever is in between the pipes for the Ducks tonight makes a terrific value for daily fantasy. Both guys have been hot lately and helped carry the Ducks to the top of the Pacific Division. Andersen has gone 8-0-1 with a .934 save % in his last 9 starts while Gibson has gone 7-1-1 with a .906 save% over his last 9 starts. They Ducks are big favorites tonight as they travel to Colorado to face the Avalanche who rank in the middle of pack in offense.

Carter Hutton
Opponent - CGY
FD - 8500 DK - 7500

There is no confirmation yet but with the Preds playing on back to back nights Hutton should get the nod vs. the Flames. He has been excellent in limited start behind Pekka Rinne this year and has recorded a 7-2-2 record with 2 shutouts and a .922 save %. Nashville is the early favorite as they have won 8 of their last 10 games and face the Flames who sit in the basement of the Western Conference. Be sure to check back throughout the day to confirm the Preds starting goalie.

Also Consider - Thomas Greiss - New York Islanders @ TOR

CENTER

John Tavares
Opponent - TOR
FD - 8700 DK - 7700

He is the top center on the board tonight and gets an elite matchup against the Leafs. It has been an up and down season for Tavares with only 52 points in 61 games but it has come at the expense of better defense. He is coming off back to back games with a point and has tallied seven in his last 10 games with 34 shots and a +3 rating. The Islanders have the 5th ranked offense in the league and will need their star to help them hold off the Penguins in the Metropolitan Division with just 18 games remaining.

Stack with - Kyle Okposo(PP), Anders Lee(PP), Frans Nielsen(PP)

Rickard Rakell
Opponent - COL
FD - 6400 DK - 4600

He has spent pretty much the entire season in the Top 6 for the Ducks and has really impressed in the second half. He has tallied 13 points in 18 games since the All Star break and has seven in his last 10 games. He is much better play on DraftKings where he will only cost you 9% of your salary cap vs. 12% on FanDuel.

Stack with - Jakob Silfverberg, Jamie McGinn

Also Consider - Jeff Carter - Los Angeles Kings vs. WSH

WINGERS

James Neal
Opponent - CGY
FD - 6100 DK - 6000

He isn't the offensive force he was when he was a part of the Penguins a few years back but still provides enough value for fantasy on the Preds. It isn't so much that he has changed a whole lot, but rather that he team he plays on now is more of a defensive team. He has already passed his point total(40) from last season with the Preds and has about 16 games left to add to that total. The shot volume is there as he is averaging 3 shots on goal per game in his last 10 games. A breakout game is coming and this could be it vs. a flames team ranked 29th in goals allowed per game.

Stack with - Calle Jarnkrok, Ryan Johansen

Vladimir Tarasenko
Opponent - CHI
FD - 7600 DK - 7300

After a terrific start to the season(46 points in 50 games), he has fallen off a bit since the All Star break with only nine points in 15 games. The shooting % is the main reason for the drop off as the shot volume continues to be high(averaging around 4 shots per game). He went from 13.6% in the first half to below 9% in the 15 games since the break. For his career he averages 13.4% so we can definitely expect a jump in goals moving forward. With both elite wingers(Ovi/Kane) playing in tough matchups on the road I will pivot down to Tarasenko tonight and stack the Blues.

Stack with - Jaden Schwartz, Jori Lehtera

DEFENSE

Shea Weber
Opponent - CGY
FD - 5800 DK - 6100

The Predators are rolling right now having won eight of their last 10 games and sit with a eight point lead in the Western Conference wild card standings. They have been receiving nice fantasy output from their defense and Josi and Weber currently sit 3rd and 4th on the team with 47 and 42 points respectively. While they are close in salary on FanDuel making them both nice options, I will take Weber on DraftKings at a $900 discount.

Sami Vatanen
Opponent - COL
FD - 5400 DK - 5200

He has been an terrific for the Ducks this season and has already tied his career high with 37 points in two less games than last season. With the way he and Ducks are playing since the All Star break he will destroy those numbers. The Ducks have won 9 of their last 10 games and in those games Vatanen has tallied 10 points (7 on the PP) with 22 shots and a +5 rating. Terrific value just over the $5K mark on both sites.

Also Consider - Jake Muzzin - Los Angeles Kings vs. WSH

  • This is where I lean on my DFSR family's knowledge for line stacks. I should stay away from the Capitals lines today? Or is it safe to roll with the WSH1 or 2 line in a lineup or two?

I cleaned up real good last night with the Dall and Ottawa stack plus Burns on D.

    Thank you

  • Good afternoon Justin.

It is a tough matchup for the Caps in LA but everytime I try and fade them they keep winning. I am thinking it will be a low scoring game(2-1 or 3-1). If you want some WSH exposure throw Burakovsky in there. Cheap option.

  • I like STL1 for a low owned stack. The Ducks top 2 lines will be popular vs. COL and same with NSH vs. CGY. Islanders playing back to back and third in four but look elite at this point. Check the update above in article.

  • Thank you. I needed a contrarian lineup. I wasn't even thinking Islanders, but I have them stacked with STL1, the winger and center from the Islanders and Burakobsky by himself. I'm waiting to see who the Predators place between the pipes and Vatanen and Brodie on D.
