We are back on Friday with a small four game slate in the middle of a couple huge 12 game slates. Three teams (Columbus Blue Jackets, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks) are playing on back to back nights but with a small slate we can't rule out anyone tonight. The top two goalies (Fleury/Bishop) face each other in a matchup that has seen the total go over 6 goals in five straight meetings dating back to November 2013. There is a ton of volatility so sticking to GPP's tonight might be the way to go.
Let's dig in to the action and find some core plays for tonight.
Goaltenders
Frederik Andersen
Opponent - ARI
FD - 8100 DK - 7100
The Ducks have had a rough start to the season, especially between the pipes where both goaltenders have spent time on the injured reserve. Despite the early struggles they have battled back and won 7 of their last 10 games and sit 3rd in the Pacific Division. Andersen has been terrific lately winning four straight games with a .939 save percentage and has been much better at home this season. He isn't confirmed starting at this point but with Gibson starting on Thursday he should be good to go.
Karri Ramo
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 7600 DK - 7500
As of writing this, the Flames are the biggest favorites(-165) on Friday night. They get a great matchup at home vs. the Blue Jackets who beat just over a week ago. Ramo came out of the break strong making 28 saves on 29 shots in a win vs. the Hurricanes on Wednesday. I am not a fan of paying up for either of the top goalies tonight and will have a ton of value exposure to Ramo & Andersen in GPP formats.
Also Consider - Connor Hellebuyck - Winnipeg Jets vs. CAR
CENTER
Sidney Crosby
Opponent - TB
FD - 9500 DK - 7800
His salary is right where it should be on FanDuel but is still under priced on DraftKings under $8K. He is red hot with goals in four straight and five of his last six games and is coming off his best game of the year. He picked up a hat trick vs. the Senators and added an assist on 8 shots on goal. After a slow start to the year he now has 45 points in 48 games. If you are paying up for a forward on this short slate there is no better option than Sid the Kid.
Stack with - Chris Kunitz, Patric Hornqvist, Evgeny Malkin
Sean Monahan
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 7500 DK - 5900
The Flames came out of the break flying on Wednesday beating the Hurricanes 4-1. It was Monahan leading the way with a goal and three assists(2 on the PP). The Flames get another plus matchup tonight as the Blue Jackets come to town in a projected high scoring game. I will have a ton of exposure to the top line in tournaments and if you are playing cash they are an affordable and safe way to go on a short slate.
Stack with - Johnny Gaudreau, Jiri Hudler
Also Consider - Mark Scheifele - Winnipeg Jets vs. CAR
WINGERS
Johnny Gaudreau
Opponent - CBJ
FD - 8600 DK - 7100
Back to back Flames here on the short slate. They are in a terrific spot tonight as big favorites vs. the Blue Jackets in a projected high scoring game. Johnny Hockey is leading the Flames with 49 points(11 on the PP) in 49 games. He is one of only two forwards with a plus rating(+6) on the team and has averaged over 20:oo of ice time per game. The thing that has stood out more than any other this year is Gaudreau's home/road splits. In 25 home games he has 36 points and a +19 rating. In 26 road games he has 16 points with a -12 rating. On a short slate the Flames top line will be highly owned but very tough to fade, especially on home ice.
Stack with - Jiri Hudler, Sean Monahan
Corey Perry
Opponent - ARI
FD - 7300 DK - 6500
We have a terrific divisional matchup tonight as the Coyotes visit the Ducks. Anaheim has won five straight games passing Arizona for third in the Pacific Division. It was a horrendous start for the Ducks but it seems they have righted the ship. Perry has been a big part of it with 9 points in his last 10 games. The Ducks top line is not where it should which has pushed their salaries to a very affordable level. While I am not expecting a high scoring game, Perry should get his opportunities to hit value tonight.
Stack with - Patrick Maroon, Rickard Rakell
Also Consider - Nikolaj Ehlers - Winnipeg Jets vs. CAR
DEFENSE
Kris Letang
Opponent - TB
FD - 6500 DK - 6400
Since mid November, Letang has been one of the most consistent fantasy D men out there. In those 22 games he has recorded 27 points for the Penguins with an incredible 10 multi point games. He has a high floor for the price as he attempts a high number of shots and carries huge upside in almost every matchup. In the last five meetings between these two teams the total has gone over all five times looking like back yard hockey. This is will be one of the top games to stack tonight.
Jack Johnson
Opponent - CGY
FD - 3800 DK - 3800
He makes a decent punt play on DraftKings tonight below $4K. He has averaged close to 3 blocked shots a game over his last six games and if he can add any offense at all will hit value. On a short slate you are going to want some top talent and will need a few punt D men to get there. Take a shot with Jack.
Also Consider - Michael Stone - Arizona Coyotes @ ANH
