Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings & FanDuel for Saturday, January 9th, 2016. With two games going off in the afternoon, we have eight games on the schedule for Saturday night. The following teams are playing on back to back nights:
- Carolina Hurricanes (Road) *3rd game in 4 nights*
- Columbus Blue Jackets
- Boston Bruins (Road)
- Nashville Predators (Road)
- Tampa Bay Lightning (Road)
- St. Louis Blues (Road) *3rd game in 4 nights*
- Toronto Maple Leafs (no back to back but 3rd game in 4 nights on road)
Let's take a look at some core plays for tonight.
Goaltenders
Tuukka Rask
Opponent - OTT
FD - 8400 DK - 7800
With Rask getting the night off last night in the first of back to back games, he should be rested and ready to go tonight in Ottawa. The Bruins beat up on the Devils last night, winning 4-1 and improving their road to 12-3-2 on the season. Rask has been up inconsistent this year at home but stellar on the road with a 7-2-2 record and .939 save percentage. He will be looking for revenge after losing to the Senators in December giving up only two goals on 21 shots. He is safe in all formats tonight.
Martin Jones
Opponent - TOR
FD - 6800 DK - 6900
On most nights I would consider Jones a GPP play as he has been inconsistent and the Sharks have been awful at home. Tonight Jones is in a great spot to get a win and have a strong game vs. the visiting Leafs who are playing a third game i four nights on the road. He has played the Leafs three ties in his young career and is unbeaten with a 3-0 record and .944 save percentage.
Also Consider - Louis Domingue - Arizona Coyotes vs. NSH
CENTER
Patrice Bergeron
Opponent - OTT
FD - 6900 DK - 7300
He went scoreless last night in New Jersey but added four shots on net to solidify his floor for cash games. Tonight he faces the Senators who he has faced twice this year and scored two goals. He is on e of the most consistent fantasy options night in and night out and provides a high floor with shots and won't hurt you in the +/- department. He gets close to 3:00 of ice time on the leagues #1 powerplay which also gives him the multi point upside needed for tournaments.
Stack with - Brad Marchand, Loui Eriksson
Joe Thornton
Opponent - TOR
FD - 5000 DK - 5000
He is a tremendous bargain at $5K on both sites tonight and in a great matchup. The Leafs come to San Jose tonight to play a third game in four nights on the road. Thornton has recorded at least a point in seven of his last eight games and has added five powerplay points. He is now up to 27 points on the season and is in a prime spot to add to it tonight. He is safe in all formats and the Sharks make a terrific stacking option.
Stack with - Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau, Brent Burns
Also Consider - Steven Stamkos - Tampa Bay Lightning @ VAN
WINGERS
Zach Parise
Opponent - DAL
FD - 9400 DK - 7900
He has been limited to 31 of the Wild's 40 games this year and when healthy is one of the top forwards in the league. He now has 26 points in those 31 games and added eight powerplay points, 114 shots and a +3 rating. He has been red hot lately with four goals in his last two games including 12 shots and a +5 rating. He has been close to two fantasy point per game better on the road so fire him up in any format tonight.
Stack with - Mikael Granlund, Thomas Vanek, Mikko Koivu, Jason Pominville
Brendan Gallagher
Opponent - PIT
FD - 5400 DK - 6300
Since returning from injury at the Winter Classic he has recorded three points in his first three games back. He has stepped right back into his role on the top line with Plekanec and Pacioretty and also back on the top PP unit. The salary is still very attractive, especially on FanDuel, making him a great choice in any format.
Stack with - Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec
Ondrej Palat
Opponent - VAN
FD - 5500 DK - 3700
He has struggled a bit since returning from injury with only one point in his first three games with eight shots and two blocks. The positive sign is that his ice time is back up around 16:00-17:00 a game with over 2:00 coming on the powerplay. He is back on a line with the red hot Nikita Kucherov and Tyler Johnson and shouldn't take long to build back the chemistry and start producing. He is best used on DraftKings where his salary is below $4K.
Stack with - Nikita Kucherov, Tyler Johnson, Steven Stamkos
Also Consider - Patric Hornqvist - Pittsburgh Penguins @ MON
DEFENSE
Ryan Suter
Opponent - DAL
FD - 4400 DK - 5900
He has been a tremendous source of safety when building lineups this year on FanDuel as his price never seems to climb above $4500. He provides more than just offense for the Wild as he is second in ice time in the NHL(28:22 per game) and adds shots, blocks, penalty minutes and won't hurt your +/- rating. He has 27 points on the season with 96 shots, 69 blocks and a +11 rating. Roll him out in all formats tonight.
Kris Letang
Opponent - MON
FD - 6200 DK - 5900
Letang has been the hottest defensemen in the NHL lately with nine points in his last four games including five PP points and one SH points. In those four games he has also added 17 shots on goal, 7 blocks, 12 penalty minutes and a +1 rating for the Penguins. He ha a very high floor and tremendous upside.
Also Consider - Zdeno Chara - Boston Bruins @ OTT
