Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings, FanDuel, & Draftpot for Friday, January 8th, 2016. Tonight we have a smaller six game slate in the NHL and no teams are playing on back to back nights. The Chicago Blackhawks are playing a third game in four nights but are at home tonight vs. the Buffalo Sabres so it doesn't scare me off the Hawks at all, especially on a short slate.

Let's take a look at some core plays for tonight.

Goaltenders

Corey Crawford - Chicago Blackhawks vs. BUF *Probable*
DraftKings - $8,100 FanDuel - $10,000 DraftPot -  6.40 DPPG

The Blackhawks have won five straight and eight of their last 10 games. They also have the second most wins on home ice(16) and welcome the Sabres to the United Center in a great matchup on Friday. Crawford has won three straight and six of his last eight starts and has 22 wins on the year and a .925 save percentage. The Blackhawks are the biggest favorites on the six game slate and Crawford has the best shot at a win.

Tuukka Rask - Boston Bruins @ NJ *Probable*
DraftKings - $7,800 FanDuel - $8,600 DraftPot -  5.62 DPPG

While Boston has struggled at home this year, they have one of the best road winning percentages in the league with a 11-3-2 record away from Boston. While Rask has struggled lately dropping two straight games, he still owns a 7-2-2 record on the road and 4-2-2 career record vs. the Devils with a .949 save percentage. Look for the Bruins to get back on track tonight as they have owned the Devils to the tune of a 8-2 record over their last 10 meetings.

CENTER

Patrice Bergeron - Boston Bruins @ NJ
DraftKings - $7,300 FanDuel - $7,500 DraftPot - 5.03 DPPG

A great place to start you team is with Patrice Bergeron. You know exactly what you are going to get every game. He provides a very high floor with the amount of shots he takes(15.4 iCorsi/60) and averages over 20 min of ice time per game with close to 3 min coming on the powerplay. He has 37 points in 38 games including 9 in his last 10 games. He is safe in any format.

Stack with - Loui Eriksson, David Pastrnak, Torey Krug

Paul Stastny - St. Louis Blues @ ANH
DraftKings - $4,900 FanDuel - $5,100 DraftPot -  2.42 DPPG

He has points in five straight games and has been a very consistent option for the Blues this season. He has been getting time on the top line with Tarasenko and Backes and has been getting over 3 min of ice time on the powerplay per game. He is cheap exposure to Blues offense and powerplay and leaves room to pay up for some higher scoring options tonight.

Stack with - Alex Steen, Troy Brouwer, David Backes, Vladimir Tarasenko

Also Consider - Steven Stamkos - Tampa Bay Lightning @ EDM

 

WINGERS

Patrick Kane - Chicago Blackhawks vs. BUF
DraftKings - $8,900 FanDuel(RW) - $9,300 DraftPot -  5.45 DPPG

He is red hot again with 14 points in his last 10 games and is now up to 60 on the season. He is averaging over 3.5 shots per game providing a high floor and he carries multi point upside into an elite matchup at home vs. the Sabres. On a short slate, he is the most expensive option and could easily go off for 5-10 fantasy points. Fade at your own risk.

Filip Forsberg - Nashville Predators @ COL
DraftKings - $5,800 FanDuel(LW) - $7,700 DraftPot -  3.50 DPPG

He makes a great GPP play tonight as he might be lower owned on a smaller slate due to his recent performances. He has only picked up one point in his last five games but is ranked inside the Top 30 in iCorsi/60 (17.8) which has produced 117 shots on goal and 26 points. The Predators are favorites as they travel to Colorado to face the Avs who are ranked 23rd in goals allowed per game.

Stack with - Craig Smith, James Neal, Mike Fisher

Teddy Purcell - Edmonton Oilers vs. TB
DraftKings - $4,100 FanDuel(RW) - $5,300 DraftPot -  2.95 DPPG

If you are looking for a spot to play the Oilers in DFS, tonight makes a great opportunity as they are home to the Lightning. The Oilers home/road splits are pretty glaring(12-7-1 at home vs. 5-14-2 on the road) making them a great target when they are playing in the Rexall Center. Purcell plays on the top line with Draisaitl and Hall and also gets heavy minutes on the top PP unit.

Also Consider - Andrej Palat - Tampa Bay Lightning @ EDM

DEFENSE

Justin Faulk - Carolina Hurricanes vs. CBJ
DraftKings - $6,400 FanDuel - $6,200 DraftPot -  2.63 DPPG

The projection system loves Faulk tonight. He is the highest projected Pts/$ among D men on FanDuel and close to the top on DraftKings. He leads the Canes in points(30) and ice time(24:54) and has recorded 15 points on the powerplay. He gets an great matchup Friday at home vs. the visiting Blue Jackets who are 8-14 on the road and rank dead last in goals allowed per game(3.17).

Francois Beauchemin - Colorado Avalanche vs. NSH
DraftKings - $5,400 FanDuel - $3,400 DraftPot -  3.28 DPPG

He makes a great salary relief option on a short slate, especially on FanDuel where he will only cost you 6% of your salary cap. He has recorded six points in his last 10 games with 18 shots and six penalty minutes. He also adds extra value on DraftKings and DraftPot as he has averaged 3.5 blocks per game over his last 10 games and has 124 blocks for the season.
