Quarterback

Thomas Sirk
Quarterbacks have thrived against Indiana all year and next up is Thomas Sirk. After missing a game due to injury Sirk came back and ended the year with a nice outing against Wake Forest. Sirk finished with almost 300 yards passing and 3 total touchdowns. I wouldn’t necessarily put Sirk in the same dual threat territory as Greg Ward, but he does have a little shake to his bake. Sirk amassed 648 yards on the ground with 6 rushing touchdowns. Duke enters the game as 2pt dogs, but this game is really a toss up. The game total is a very generous 70.5, but I think that’s giving too much credit to the defense. This is a great spot for Sirk and his price won’t kill you either.

Michael Brewer
I really can’t say I will be getting away from Sirk, but if you’re looking to save a few bucks at the position Brewer is the way to go. He doesn’t have the same ceiling as Sirk, but on a pts/$ standpoint is arguably the better option. With Gaskin and McMillian so affordable I’m just not sure you need to save at the position. Tulsa really struggles on defense and while I think McMillian will be the focal of the offense there should be more than enough offense considering Brewer’s price. If Tulsa’s passing game is in rhythm the Hokies will need a little more out of Brewer. Either way it’s unlikely he totally misses at these salaries.

Running Back

Myles Gaskin
It’s really hard to fade Jordan Howard if he is healthy and I may not, but I sure do like these two guys at the position. Both are freshman playing in their first bowl game, but I’m not worried about the hoopla at this point in the year. These guys play for big time programs on the national stage so a bowl game shouldn’t frazzle their phsychy. Washington has struggled to pass the ball much of the year, but their tough defense allows them to stay in games and stick to their gameplan. Southern Miss is a quality team, but they are simply over matched in this one. Playing as a healthy 8pt favorite I really like how this is setting up for Gaskin. Since establishing himself as RB1, 8 games, Gaskin has received less than 18 carries just once. That’s the kind of consistent volume I can get behind. His last 8 games came against all PAC-12 opponents including games at USC and Stanford. Gaskin averaged 17 fantasy points including his 5pt egg against Arizona over that stretch. I think you can see where I am going with this. Southern Miss pales in comparison to the defenses he faced over that 8 game span. He’s priced below production as is, but factor in the difference in quality opponent and you have a grossly mispriced player. I expect this true freshman to put the nation on notice what he has in store for 2016. HUGE DAY!

Travon McMillian
McMillian is a very similar play to Gaskin and much of what I said above can also be applied here. Virginia Tech is a heavy favorite at -14 with a game total around 62 which bodes well for a running back from a DFS standpoint. Like I said there are quite a few similarities with these guys so I’m going to just rapid fire here. McMillian took over part way through the year and hasn’t looked back. His volume appears to be locked in and his price reflects the stiffer competition he has faced over the final stretch of the season. Tulsa simply won’t have an answer for McMillian. Jordan Howard is the only possibility of getting away from either of these guys and even then I’m still not convinced. When considering their matchup these guys should be priced closer to 8k. Their not, but I think their production will be. Another HUGE DAY.

Wide Receiver

Isaiah Ford
Ford is the perfect cash play at the receiver position today. His price is more than reasonable given his production and especially over the short term. No one ever questioned who the #1 for the Hokies was, but their offense didn’t exactly create excitement. After Brewer went down week 1 with an injury it took a while for their offense to get back in gear. Over his last 3 games Ford has accounted for 19 receptions for 322 yards to go along with 3 touchdowns. I covered the game line above so I won’t rehash that aspect. Playing from ahead can sometimes limit the opportunity of receivers, but I’m really not concerned in this scenario. I think the Hokies will put enough points on the board and having shares of multiple players allows you to capture more of their scoring. I’m not sure I would stack VTech in GPP’s, but stack away in cash formats.

Gabe Marks
Dom Williams
If Ford is my #1 than Marks is 1a. Now that Luke Falk is expected back the Cougars passing game should once again operate like a high octane engine. Nobody passes the ball more than Washington State and even though their receivers run deep Marks and Williams see fairly consistent volume. Miami has been the epitome of a rollercoaster this season where it’s extremely difficult to predict what team will show up. Regardless they have never been spectacular on defense and they also haven’t faced an aerial attack such as Washington State’s. The game is expected to be close, which actually makes me think Vegas knows something about Miami. On paper it should be an easy Cougar win, but as 3pt favorites it seems as though this game will be close. A close game should actually benefit the receivers from Washington State. I like both receivers in all formats.

Tight End

Bucky Hodges
On a normal slate I would recommend avoiding Hodges as I feel his price outstrips his production, at least on a weekly basis. Hodges is certainly capable of delivering the goods, but like 99% of tight ends in the country, they just don’t see enough consistent volume. Given the current landscape of salaries it’s possible to roster Hodges without short changing the rest of your lineup. Tulsa is pretty awful on defense and I will look to have a fair amount of exposure to the Hokies.

  • Hi Doug,
I responded to your email about receiving the lineups for this weekend's college football but I never got them. If you remember I purchased a lineup and it was for the wrong day and you offered to send this weeks in its place. Please let me know if that is still ok.
