Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings, FanDuel, and DraftPot for Thursday, December 10th, 2015. Tonight there are seven games in the NHL with only the Montreal Canadiens playing on back to back nights. They will be starting their backup, Dustin Tokarski, in place of Mike Condon who has been filling in nicely for the injured Carey Price. Tonight I will be looking for two lowered priced punt plays at the defense position so I can pay up for a top goalie and stack some top scoring talent. Lets take a look at some core plays for Thursday night.

GOALIES

Pekka Rinne - Nashville Predators vs. CHI *PROBABLE*
DraftKings - $7,500 FanDuel - $8,000 DraftPot - 3.00 DPPG

I would reserve this pick for GPP play only tonight as Rinne has been struggling lately. He has seen his season save % drop down to .904 and his GAA rise to 2.46. He is a much better goalie than the results show and should be able to turn it around as soon as tonight. The Predators have been a better team at home this year with a 8-3-2 record while the Blackhawks have been worse on the road(5-6-3). Normally Rinne's floor isn't very high as Nashville doesn't allow many shots but the Hawks are ranked 7th in shots per game so he could see a few extra this evening.

Ben Bishop - Tampa Bay Lightning *PROBABLE*
DraftKings - $7,800 FanDuel - $8,600 DraftPot - 5.54 DPPG

The Lightning are at home tonight as -160 favorites to the visiting Ottawa Senators and should have Ben Bishop in net. Even with the Lightning struggling in 11th in Eastern Conference, Bishop has been terrific lately going 6-2-1 in his last nine starts with a .944 save percentage. Bishop has also never lost to the Sens in his career with a 6-0 record and .926 save percentage. He is safe in all formats tonight.

CENTER

David Backes - St. Louis Blues vs. PHI 
DraftKings - $4,900 FanDuel - $7,400 DraftPot - 2.60 DPPG

He struggled to start the 2015/16 after a 50 point season last year but has been starting to get back on track lately. After seeing his ice time reduced to around 15 min per game at the end of November, is back up to that 18-20 min range. The root of his early troubles seemed to be tied to the amount of shots he was taking. He is averaging less than 9.0 CF/60 for the season and was only getting 1-2 shots on net per game. This trend has flipped recently as Backes has been getting 3-5 shots on goal per game which has seen him bring his point total up to 14 for the season. Look for the trend to continue and at a low price.... for now. He makes the best play on DraftKings and DraftPot.

Mark Scheifele - Winnipeg Jets vs. CBJ
DraftKings - $4,700 FanDuel - $5,900 DraftPot - 2.33 DPPG

Sticking with the value at the Center position tonight. He is a streaky player who gets his goals in bunches and currently has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last three games. He also fired an astounding 16 shots in those three games. He seems to be confident right now and enters a great matchup at home vs. the Blue Jackets who rank 24th in goals allowed per game. The projection system likes him on both FanDuel and DraftKings and is also a nice value on DraftPot.

Also Consider - Nicklas Backstrom - Washington Capitals @ FLA

 

WINGERS

Alex Ovechkin - Washington Capitals @ FLA
DraftKings - $9,100 FanDuel(LW) - $10,000 DraftPot - 4.70DPPG

If you are paying up tonight for a top forward, Ovi is a great choice. His price is still a it depressed across the industry due to Ovi not having a multi point game since Nov. 21. He has still been a point a game player on a defensive minded team and should start seeing more production in the very near future. He is coming off a game in which he tallied a goal vs. the Red Wings and put up 8 shots on net. He is still getting close to every PP minute the Caps get and he leads the league averaging 28.5 CF/60. Great matchu in Florida tonight vs. a team he has 69 career points against in 52 games.

Evander Kane - Buffalo Sabres @ CGY
DraftKings - $5,500 FanDuel(LW) - $6,600 DraftPot - 4.00 DPPG

In the nine games since he returned from injury he has seen his price increase steadily as he has been very productive. He has seven points in those games including three multi point games. He is averaging over 22 min of ice time a game and is taking close to four shots a game on net. The floor is nice for the salary range and he comes with big upside Thursday night in a matchup vs. the Flames ranked dead last in goals allowed per game(3.52).

Vladimir Tarasenko - St. Louis Blues vs. PHI
DraftKings - $7,700 FanDuel(RW) - $8,100 DraftPot(LW) - 3.85 DPPG

The projection system likes Tarasenko for over 4 fantasy points tonight in a home matchup vs. the Flyers on Thursday.  He has points in four of his last five games including a multi point effort vs. the Blue Jackets. He has 27 points for the season and is averaging 22.3 CF?60 which is ranked 3rd in the league. He is safe in all formats tonight.

Also Consider - T.J. Oshie - Washington Capitals @ FLA

DEFENSE

Jacob Trouba - Winnipeg Jets vs. CBJ
DraftKings - $3,900 FanDuel - $4,700 DraftPot - 2.20 DPPG

He is very affordable across the industry and provides a great floor as he accumulates stats in many categories. He is an elite play on DraftKings and DraftPot as blocks are counted and he is averaging 2.1 per game. He has also been shooting the puck more lately leading to 11 shots in his last four games which has also produced four points in that time. He isn't going to kill your salary cap and provides enough production to be considered in all formats.

Shayne Gostisbehere - Philadelphia Flyers @ STL
DraftKings - $3,800 FanDuel - $3,600 DraftPot - 2.98 DPPG

His price is slowly rising and will soon be over the $4K range. He finally put up a dud game with zero shots, 1 block and a +1 rating last time out vs. the Islanders but should be in for a nice bounce back tonight. It is a tough matchup on the road but he provides such big upside it is hard to not play him at these prices. He is averaging 15.5 CF/60 and is quarterbacking the powerplay which is loaded with talent like Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds. He is a safe salary relief option in any format.
