Hero World Challenge
Albany Championship Golf Course - New Providence, Bahamas
Par 72, 7,400 Yards
We had a nice week off following the RSM Classic and now we are back for a fun, small field tournament in the Bahamas. The Hero World Challenge is an exclusive invite only tournament hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation, Tavistock Foundation and the Albany Scholars Program. The tournament features 18 of the best PGA Tour players in the world and this year will be located at the Albany Championship Golf Course in New Providence, Bahamas.
The course itself is a Par 72, 7400 yard test with a unique setup. There are five Par 3's and five Par 5's to go along with 8 Par 4 holes. The Par 3's look tricky as they are well protected by bunkers and water. The Par 5's can be reached in two shots by the long hitters but present plenty of risk/reward as missing the green in two can lead to Bogey's or worse due to the bunkers and water and fall offs behind the greens. You can view more about each hole by visiting the Albany Championship Golf Course page.
This is the first ever tournament at this location with a field of PGA Tour caliber so Course History won't be looked at this week. I will be looking for golfers who have been active since the Tour Championship. The main stats to focus on this week will be Driving Distance, Greens in Regulation, Scrambling and Strokes Gained: Putting.
**This week, with the small field, I will be doing a break down of my Top 5 golfers for this tournament. **
- Strokes Gained: Tee to Green
- Ball Striking
- Driving Distance
- Greens in Regulation
- Par 3 Performance
- Par 5 Performance
- Scrambling
- Strokes Gained: Putting
*Stat rankings are from the 2015 season*
Hero World Challenge Top 5 Rankings
Jordan Spieth
Draftkings - $11,200
Vegas Odds - 4.3/1
The Fedex Cup Champion and Player of the Year is also the returning champion of the Hero World Challenge. He ran away with the tournament last year with a winning score of -26 at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. He most recently played the Australian Open last weekend and finished tied for second with Adam Scott, one shot behind winner Matt Jones. He is the #1 player in the World and takes every tournament seriously and you can expect him to put forth another championship effort this time around.
- Strokes Gained: Tee to Green - 4
- Ball Striking - 45
- Driving Distance - 78
- Greens in Regulation - 49
- Par 3 Performance - 17
- Par 5 Performance - 23
- Scrambling - 4
- Strokes Gained: Putting - 8
Bubba Watson
Draftkings - $9,400
Vegas Odds - 11/1
Not only is Bubba the 2nd longest hitter on Tour, he is also the only player in this field who finished 2015 Top 60 in all 8 stats I am looking at this week. He is a very creative player who should be able to attack this course with his distance and his accuracy to the green. He is also elite on Par 3 and Par 5 holes. There will be many combinations out there this week with only 18 golfers and Bubba will be in a high % of my lineups.
- Strokes Gained: Tee to Green - 1
- Ball Striking - 22
- Driving Distance - 2
- Greens in Regulation - 19
- Par 3 Performance - 12
- Par 5 Performance - 28
- Scrambling - 32
- Strokes Gained: Putting - 54
Rickie Fowler
Draftkings - $9,100
Vegas Odds - 11/1
He finished T6 at this event last year at Isleworth G&CC and is one of the favorites going into this year. He cemented his status as a top player in the world last year with two wins, one being the PLAYERS Championship and the other the Deustche Bank Championship in the Playoffs. His best game comes out when he is faced with the most elite fields in golf and he will have the opportunity to shine against 17 of the worlds best.
- Strokes Gained: Tee to Green - 26
- Ball Striking - 58
- Driving Distance - 40
- Greens in Regulation- 106
- Par 3 Performance - 22
- Par 5 Performance - 65
- Scrambling - 47
- Strokes Gained: Putting - 35
Patrick Reed
Draftkings - $8,800
Vegas Odds - 13/1
I would guess that Patrick Reed will be the lowest owned golfer in the upper half of the salaries this week with so many great options. He hits the ball long enough but struggled in 2015 with accuracy and GIR but was elite in Par 5 Performance, Scrambling and Putting. I like the setup of this course for his game and the fact he is an underdog. Makes a great play in multiple lineups if you are multi entering a GPP tournament.
- Strokes Gained: Tee to Green - 41
- Ball Striking - 161
- Driving Distance - 69
- Greens in Regulation - 141
- Par 3 Performance - 71
- Par 5 Performance - 7
- Scrambling - 28
- Strokes Gained: Putting - 19
Anirban Lahiri
Draftkings - $7,100
Vegas Odds - 41/1
He should be one of the lowest owned golfers out of the whole field as he is not a highly popular name in North America.....yet. He played 12 times on the PGA Tour last season making 9 cuts highlighted by a T5 at the PGA Championship. His game fits the course as his driving distance would rank around Top 50, GIR would rank Top 5, Putts Per Round would rank Top 100. He is a great option if you are looking to construct some lineups with some lower owned guys and top priced guys. Can't really call it stars and scrubs as all the golfers are elite players.
- Driving Distance - 293 Yards
- Greens in Regulation - 71%
- Putts Per Round - 29
