Welcome to the daily fantasy hockey picks article for DraftKings and FanDuel for Thursday, October 29, 2015. We are now a few weeks into the season and most teams have played around 8 games so far. There are some advanced stats that I am going to start to incorporate into my analysis each night and I want to go over what the stat is and how it can be predictive in fantasy hockey.
The first stat I am going to start using is iCorsi/60 or CF/60. Corsi has been used in hockey as a proxy for puck possession as their currently is no metric available to track a player or teams actual possession time. The NHL has tested technology that will soon be incorporated but for now Corsi will have to do. It measures a player or teams shot attempts during a game. A Corsi event during a game can be 1 of 3 things. A shot on net, a shot that misses the net, and a shot that is blocked. On the team level it is measured as Corsi For and Corsi Against or more commonly as CF%(Corsi For/(Corsi Frr + Corsi Against)). For team purposes we are looking for teams above 50%. On the player level we will be using CF/60 which gives us a look into how much an individual player is attempting shots. We are looking for players who are attempting above average(approx. 10 CF/60) Corsi events per 60 minutes of ice time.
Lets now take a look in Thursday nights matchups using these advanced metrics to help us find some values and high end plays that will help us cash on DraftKings and FanDuel.
Ben Bishop - Tampa Bay Lightning vs. COL *PROBABLE*
DraftKings - $7,300 FanDuel - $8,700
The Lightning are at home on Thursday as the biggest favorites on the board vs. the Avalanche. He is 5-3 on the year with a .912 save percentage. The Avs have struggled to start the season going 2-5-1 giving the Lightning a great opportunity for a win on home ice.
Jake Allen - St. Louis Blues vs. ANH *CONFIRMED*
DraftKings - $7,200 FanDuel - $9,100
Coming off a shutout on Tuesday, he will be back in between the pipes again on Thursday vs. the Ducks. Before the shutout he was average to start the year allowing 3 goals in each of the first 3 games before the shutout last time out. He does have a .922 save % and is averaging 5.1 DK & FD points per game. Best fit in GPP formats tonight as I want to see two solid games in a row before I declare him safe.
Also Consider - Kari Lehtonen - Dallas Stars
John Tavares - New York Islanders vs. CAR
DraftKings - $8,400 FanDuel - $9,200
He is a top 2 priced player on both sites but should be able to pay that off on Thursday. He has picked up 11 points in his first 9 games and he has a nice 18.8 CF/60(26th in NHL). The Islanders will get a nice home matchup vs. a Hurricanes team that is allowing close to 3 goals a game. He is safe in all formats.
Jason Spezza - Dallas Stars vs. VAN
DraftKings - $6,000 FanDuel - $6,200
If you are looking for a safe option for cash games, Spezza is a great option averaging around 4.5 fantasy points per game on both sites. He has 9 points in 9 games and is averaging 21.5 CF/60(12th in NHL) so far this year. Due to the high number of attempted shots his floor will remain high for cash games and with his multi point capability on a high scoring Stars team, he also makes a great tournament play as well.
Also Consider Jori Lehtera - Dallas Stars

Jamie Benn - Dallas Stars vs. VAN
DraftKings - $8,000 FanDuel(LW) - $9,200
He is almost a must play every night until he reaches Ovechkin prices. He is averaging 6 fantasy points per game on both sites and has 15 points in 9 games to start the year. He is also averaging 12.5 CF/60 and plays alongside Tyler Seguin who is averaging the 4th most CF/60(24.6) in the league. They are the most dangerous pair of stars(no pun intended) in the league and face a Canucks team on the road Thursday night.
Jakub Voracek - Philadelphia Flyers vs. NJ
DraftKings - $6,500 FanDuel(RW) - $7,500
The Flyers have started to pick things up since the start of the season and Voracek has played a big role in that even if not on the score sheet. He plays top line with Giroux and averages over 20 CF/60 on the season. This is a sign that his point production will soon pick up to the shots attempted. He enters a nice matchup vs. their division rivals the New Jersey Devils. The Flyers last 3 games have all seen 5 or more combined goals scored. Look for the trend to continue Thursday.
Brendan Gallagher - Montreal Canadiens @ EDM
DraftKings - $5,400 FanDuel(RW) - $5,500
He is a cheap way to get exposure to the Habs #1 line who has been rolling to start the season. Gallagher has 9 points in his first 10 games and is averaging 18 CF/60. The Habs failed to tie the NHL record with a perfect 10-0 record after falling to the Canucks the other night but should get back on track in Edmonton.
Also Consider - Adam Henrique - New Jersey Devils
Brent Seabrook - Chicago Blackhawks @ WPG
DraftKings - $4,700 FanDuel - $5,300
Since Duncan Keith got injured, Seabrook has stepped in nicely as a scoring threat on the Blackhawks blue line. He has picked up 5 points in the last 3 games and for the season is averaging 12.6 CF/60. The Hawks travel to Winnipeg Thursday in a matchup vs. the Jets who are allowing close to 3 goals per game.
John Klingberg - Dallas Stars vs. VAN
DraftKings - $4,900 FanDuel - $5,600
His price on DraftKings has been rising but is still under $5K. His FanDuel salary has remained the same since Tuesday when he scored a goal for the Stars in a comeback defeat of the Ducks. He has been better than advertised and the breakout looks like it will continue through this season. He is getting top powerplay time and is averaging over 23 minutes of ice time per game. A great play in all formats.
Also Consider - P.K. Subban - Montreal Canadiens
