JT Barrett
The day is here, it’s finally here and thanks to Urban holding on to a beat hand Barrett’s salary is probably 15-20% below where it will be in a couple weeks. Barrett seemingly came out of nowhere last season to replace the injured Braxton Miller and suddenly found himself in the Heisman conversation. Then Barrett got hurt and the Buckeye QB saga began. Cardale Jones opened the year as the starter when most assumed it would Barrett under center in The Shoe opening weekend. Jones, in my opinion, was carried by championship caliber team and has finally been given the hook for Barrett to carry OSU to a title run. If you you’re catching a hint of giddiness in my writing it’s because giddy at the chance to buy Barrett shares at such a discount. The Buckeyes are going to hang a big number on Rutgers. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.
Seth Collins
Collins has a nice matchup this week against a somewhat forgiving Colorado defense. Playing the game in Corvallis should add that little extra bump to Collins’ run game, which is critical to his overall success. Depending on your source the game is a pick or Colorado as a slight favorite with a total around 60. Collins represents such a large chunk of what the Beavers do on offense that when they are projected for 30 or so points he has a great chance to hit value at his middling price. On FanDuel I will stick with Barrett for my cash games, but on Draftkings Collins’ sub 7k salary makes him a perfect match with Barrett at quarterback. Pair them to victory.
Leonard Fournette
Running back is very top heavy on the late slate and choosing between the elite could be the difference between eating steak or canned ham. Dalvin Cook is arguably the most electric back in the country, but his nagging hamstring injury could mean just two carries before he leaves the game. I’m not considering Booker, but Elliot can also be considered among the elite. I’m leaning Fournette for one reason and that would be JT Barrett. I think Ohio St will score plenty of points in their game and Elliot should be just fine, but Barrett will consume a larger percentage of the offense compared to what Brandon Harris will siphon away from Fournette. LSU should have little difficulty running the ball against WKU and if the Hilltoppers can move the ball through the air you could witness another monster by the Baton Rouge Heisman candidate.
Jeremy McNichols
McNichols feels a bit like a sucker’s bet and maybe I’m a sucker, but the playbook says this price is low hanging fruit for a guy like McNichols. The Weapon, as he’s affectionately known, is simply a touchdown machine. He has notched multiple scores in every game this year and given Boise os projected for around 45 points it stands to reason McNichols will be in a position to once again find pay dirt more than once. He is returning from concussion like symptoms so it’s certainly possible he won’t see the fourth quarter, but his 14 touchdowns in just 6 games suggest he doesn’t need all four quarters. If he is a full go this price is a bargain.
Laquon Treadwell
Treadwell had been on fire and has completely separated himself from the other Ole MIss receivers. Kelly & the Rebels haven’t been the same since their impressive at Alabama, but Treadwell’s production has increased and become more consistent. I think what we are seeing here is Treadwell is an NFL talent and his teammates are not. As conference play kicks in and the competition steepens the cream rises to the top. While it was easy to spread the ball around against lesser teams Kelly has looked Treadwell’s way more often in these tougher games. That trend should continue this weekend. His price on Draftkings is still about 15% below where it should be. He may be tough to fit on FanDuel, but his user rate should be fairly high on Draftkings.
Kermit Whitfield
I have mixed feelings towards the overall receiver slate Saturday night. Treadwell is the only guy I feel comfortable spending up to get, but his salary is difficult to fit. On FanDuel I feel running back will probably eat away a significant chunk of your salary that you will find yourself sorting through the middle class. In general these guys are mostly the same. They all should have the opportunity to score, but it’s that pivotal touchdown that make or break their day. Whitfield has been the proverbial hot hand in Tallahassee hauling 9 receptions in each of his last two games. Cook will garner much of the defensive attention leaving Whitfield more room to run in the secondary. I wouldn’t bet the house on the guy, but I don’t mind rostering him in order to allocate more salary towards running back. Plus his name is Kermit.
Jacob Hollister
I would have liked to see Higbee healthy as I feel his role has changed for the worse, but many people would have still paid up for him possibly creating a nice edge by fading him. As it stands he is doubtful and most will avoid. No worries, Gentry is doubtful as well which will shifty some additional targets to Hollister. Don’t expect him to win a GPP, but you could do much worse.
