Silverado Country Club(North) - Napa, CA
Par 72, 7,203 Yards
The 2014/2015 PGA Tour season officially wrapped up Sunday with the USA team beating the International team in the Presidents Cup. It was just another accomplishment achieved by 2015 player of the year Jordan Spieth. He picked up 5 wins including the first two majors(Masters & US Open), T4 at the Open Championship, and 2nd at the PGA Championship. Jason Day, who won the PGA Championship, battled Spieth for the player of year and Fedex Cup Championship right up until the Tour Championship. It was Spieth who showed up to win at East Lake by 4 strokes and take home the $10,000,000 prize. It might have been because I paid more attention to the PGA Tour and watched more golf this year than ever before in my life but the excitement surrounding the up and coming talent seems to be reaching new levels. The rookie crop gave us Justin Thomas, Tony Finau, Carlos Ortiz, Adam Hadwin, Daniel Berger to name a few. This season's rookies have a tall order following up 2015 rookies but players like Emiliano Grillo, Patton Kizzire, and Micheal Kim will definitely be fun to watch and have a good shot at early success on the PGA Tour. It will all begin this Thursday at the Frys.com Open.
The 2015/2016 PGA Tour season will kick this week in Napa, California for the Frys.com Open. The course hosting will be Silverado Country Club(North Course). This will be the second year this course has hosted the Frys.com open so we don't have much data to go off of this week. The course has tree lined fairways with bunkers and water also used as a defense. When looking at last years results you notice that driving accuracy was not a key stat with many of the top golfers below average for the week. Distance on the other hand was key as the top of the leaderboard was full of golfers who drove it 295+ yards off the tee. The other main stat I will be using this week will be Greens in Regulation as the top players were hitting around 70%+ and the average for the week was around 66%. At the bottom of the intro you will see a list of all the stats I will be using on my cheatsheet this week.
What a fantastic first season it was for me writing daily fantasy PGA. There were some good weeks, there was some bad weeks, but most importantly I learned a tremendous amount about strategies and lineup construction that I will carry over into this season to best provide the most accurate picks to help you cash in daily fantasy golf. I was hoping for a little more of break after the Tour Championship to tweak the cheatsheet but I will take a short break and more golf any day! Moving forward through the wrap around portion(approx 6 tournaments) of the 2015/2016 season, you may notice a few differences each week as I make changes. Anything that is changed or new will be explained on the "How To" tab of the spreadsheet and if you need further explanation please contact me anytime. This year on the cheatsheet I will be listing 1 Cash Game and 1 GPP lineup for each site. I will be tracking the records of these lineups as the season progresses. For my cash games I will be trying to target 50/50's and double ups with at least 50 people in them and varying the buyin depending on the week. For my GPP lineups on DraftKings I will be entering the $3 Drive to the Green and on Fantasy Feud I will be entering the $2.20 $1K Guarantee. Each week on the cheatsheet and in the article I will show the results from the week before and the year to date stats for my lineups. The cheatsheet is a way for you to drastically reduce your research time and make the best roster decisions possible based on salary, odds, current form, statistical ranks, and course history. The lineups are provided to illustrate how I use the cheatsheet to make my lineups.
Brooks Koepka
Vegas Odds - 21/1
Draftkings - $10,600
Fantasy Feud - $179,000
GoDraft - $
Some(myself included) were expecting a big breakout from Koepka last season but it didn't really end up happening. He had a decent year overall. He started it off with a T8 here at the Frys.com last year which kick started a great start to the season. He followed it up with a T4 at the Shriners and a win at the Phoenix Open. He finished the year off with 1 win, 8 top 10's, and only missed 3 cuts. Look for Koepka to kick start this with another solid finish here in Napa.
Tony Finau
Vegas Odds - 21/1
Draftkings - $10,600
Fantasy Feud - $158,000
GoDraft - $
It was an up and down year for the rookie with 5 top 10's, 16 top 25's and 9 cuts missed in the 2014/2015 season. He did however finish the year strong as he made it to the third round of the Fedex Cup playoffs before being eliminated. He was ranked very highly in many statistical categories last year but struggled with proximity and putting. If he can improve those areas of his game he should be able to attack this course this week. He played here last year and finished with a tie for 12th.
Hunter Mahan
Vegas Odds - 51/1
Draftkings - $8,600
Fantasy Feud - $130,000
GoDraft - $
He was very consistent(only missed 4 cuts) but lacked upside(only 4 top 10's) last season and some of his stats reflect that. He was 135th in strokes gained tee to green and 180th in proximity. He did however rank in the top 50 in driving distance, par 4 performance, and putting. He finished 3rd here at Silverado CC and should be able to put up a solid result again this weekend. He makes a great cash game play.
Brendan Steele
Vegas Odds - 61/1
Draftkings - $8,300
Fantasy Feud - $123,000
GoDraft - $
Steel had a very similar season to Mahan with 4 top 10's and only missing 4 cuts all year. He is much better statistically than Mahan ranking 15th tee to green, 16th in driving distance, and 12th in par 4 performance. He made it all the way to the BMW Championship where he finished T13 but couldn't advance to the Tour Championship. He finished 21 here last year and will be looking for a strong start to the wrap around season this week. He also makes a great cash game play.
Chez Reavie
Vegas Odds - 81/1
Draftkings - $7,800
Fantasy Feud - $102,000
GoDraft - $
He made the cut here last year and finished 53rd but this pick is based off his current form. He didn't make the Fedex Cup playoffs so he spent the last month of the season on the Web.com Tour where he has had some great success. He had a win, 2nd place, T10 and T20 in those four tournaments. He ranked 125th in driving distance last year but can make up for it with a his elite GIR and Proximity game. I would only use Reavie in a GPP lineup this week.
Will Wilcox
Vegas Odds - 101/1
Draftkings - $7,500
Fantasy Feud - $102,000
GoDraft - $
He was a popular play last season in DFS with his consistently good stat rankings and great play. He had to withdraw early form the Fedex Cup playoffs with a knee injury which might force his ownership down this week. He confirmed on Twitter he is healthy and ready to go this week. I would still only use in GPP formats just to be safe.
Hudson Swafford
Vegas Odds - 176/1
Draftkings - $6,900
Fantasy Feud - $60,000
GoDraft - $
This pick is strictly for GPP formats. Swafford started the year with a T8 here at Silverado CC which started his season off with a bang. He then went T18 and T12 before the season took a turn. He then went on to miss 7 of the next 9 cuts. He did however finish the season on a high note with a T50 at the Barclays and T33 at the Deutsche Bank. He ranked 44th tee to green in 2015 to go with his top 50 ranking in GIR, Proximity, par 5 performance, and putting. He has the skill set to do well on the PGA Tour and should improve on last season. He can start the year strong with another solid finish at the Frys.com Open.
Henrik Norlander
Vegas Odds - 7.5/1
Draftkings - $6,200
Fantasy Feud - $39,000
GoDraft - $
He played his first year on the PGA Tour in 2013 playing 22 tournaments and making 13 cuts. He then went on to play on the Web.com Tour in 2014 with limited success. In 2015 on the Web.com Tour he played 23 events and made 13 cuts. He finished the season off strong making 3 of his final 4 cuts including his first win on the tour. He will be a very low owned choice this week and nice fit in a stars and scrubs lineup.
***Fantasy Feud Update***
There is some pricing that seems to be off a bit going into this tournament. Consider the following players as low end values on Fantasy Feud:
1. Pat Perez - $30,000
2. Ryo Ishikiawa - $32,000
3. David Hearn - $30,000
4. Zac Blair - $30,000
5. Jerry Kelly - $30,000
