Every once in a while we’ll bring you some plays you can make on DraftKings that really help you save some cash towards those salary caps. These aren’t the safest plays in the world as the best players aren’t going to be priced in the bargain basement. But if these dudes hit the lineups tonight, I think they are worth a look. And if you want the rest of our plays, check out Friday’s
Yasmani Grandal - DK 3400
He hit second in the lineup for the Dodgers yesterday and here’s to hoping that trend continues. Few catchers, outside of Buster Posey, hit this high up in the lineup and it’s an enormous advantage in terms of plate appearance expectation to have the chance at just getting another try at bat. Especially on DraftKings where an out won’t necessarily cost you points. Grandal takes a ton of walks (16.2%) making him a solid cash game play at these prices even against a live arm like Carlos Martinez.
Evan Longoria - DK 3800
Logan Forsythe - DK 3200
Brandon Guyer - DK 3300
Joey Butler - DK 3700
Will the Rays ever face another righty pitcher for the rest of the year? Sure doesn’t seem like it considering the run they’ve been on lately. I think this is the fourth straight day against a southpaw. Look, they are cheap for a reason. This isn’t a team that exactly lights the world on fire offensively. And the ballpark in Safeco does them no favors in
terms of power expectation. I get all of that. But this is a group of hitters who have pretty extreme platoon splits across the board when it comes to facing lefties. Longoria appears a particular bargain on this slate as he’s made a career hammering lefties. This is basically the top four in the order for the Rays when a lefty is on the mound. J.A. Happ is pretty platoon neutral for his career, but he’s allowed a .760 wOBA to righty hitters in that time. He isn’t a complete bum, but I like getting some Rays in on this slate for salary relief.
Will Venable - DK 3500
Still batting leadoff with Wil Myers on the shelf and stepping into a pretty good situation on this slate. Great American Ballpark is one of the best hitter’s parks around, boosting power in all directions. Venable has hints of power and can also swipe a base when the mood strikes. He’s facing Raisel Iglesias, a big K guy who also issues a fair amount of walks. His xFIP is in the 4’s and allows a number of hard hit balls. If Venable is in the leadoff slot again I think he’s a fine cash game play and even has upside at this price.
Also note: Take a look at the Mets’ starting lineup today against Hellickson. There are a number of guys coming cheap like Eric Campbell and Kevin Plawecki who could provide some random value going against Jeremy Hellickson in a hitter’s park.
