DraftKings Bargain MLB Plays 6/3/15

Every once in a while we’ll bring you some plays you can make on DraftKings that really help you save some cash towards those salary caps. These aren’t the safest plays in the world as the best players aren’t going to be priced in the bargain basement. But if these dudes hit the lineups tonight, I think they are worth a look. Today is a big day for pitching. There are a slew of expensive, power arms going and you’ll want to roster two of them on DraftKings. That will take some finagling because high K upside comes at a premium on this site. These are some of the bats to fill in to make it happen.

Ryan Raburn - DK 2800
The Tribe appear committed to getting Raburn in the middle of the lineup whenever a lefty is on the mound. This has paid off handsomely in the short term with Raburn putting up a 182 wRC+ and 1.000+ OPS in that split this season. He’ll face a garbage arm in Jason Vargas whose xFIP is close to five while issuing a bunch of walks and not too many K’s. I suspect Raburn, if in the lineup, is a big percentage start on the day when you want to get a bunch of money in on pitching.

Will Venable - DK 3300
Like I said yesterday, Petco Park might not be quite the pitcher’s haven it’s become known for. A lot more home runs are heading out of the park this season and it’s possible there’s been some wind adjustment through the stadium. Venable has hints of power, but his big value add is the slot in the order. He’s been hitting leadoff with some success and I think he sticks there in the short term, especially with a righty on the mound. This is purely a batting order consideration. Venable is extremely average but does just enough in the speed and power departments to warrant a play if he’s setting the table.

Gerardo Parra - DK 3000
With Khris Davis out with a ligament tear, Parra steps in as the number two hitter in an effort to give the Brewers a righty-lefty-righty combo at the top of the lineup. He won’t draw a ton of walks which lowers his floor some. But he’s coming darn near the minimum. The plate experience expectation makes up for some of this downside because he should see an extra one and they all come sandwiched in between Carlos Gomez and Ryan Braun. He has hints of speed and power (primary word being “hints”). Not the best matchup against Lackey though the latter isn’t striking out a ton of batters.

Logan Forsythe - DK 3000
Brandon Guyer - DK 3400
Again, I know I included these guys in our regular picks article, but I think they are worth mentioning again as they become important on a day with so much good pitching. The Rays are great about switching lineups around to reflect platoons and these two guys end up in the top four of the batting order when a southpaw is on the mound. Gave you both yesterday and Forsythe went yard against C.J. Wilson. They face a worse lefty today in Hector Santiago whose ERA isn’t reflective of his actual skill. The xFIP is way behind and he’s been super lucky on the season. Love getting both of these guys on the cheap and I see them as cash game plays for sure.

Consider Mike Aviles if he’s hitting at the top of the lineup. Yunel Escobar is also coming cheaper.
