Harbour Town Golf Links - Hilton Head, South Carolina
Par 71, 7,101 Yards
Well the Masters is now over and Jordan Spieth is now #2 in the world. Now comes the test of catching Rory. As for the Masters test, Spieth looked like he cheated off someone else's sheet(Tiger). He led the tournament wire to wire and if it wasn't for a missed putt on the 18th Sunday he would have broke the Masters scoring record. I don't remember such a dominating Masters performance since Woods himself. Ok, ok Spieth is amazing, time to move on. Didn't win the Million like I had planned this weekend but cashed 4/7 of my lineups. Time to get ready for the US Open in June and the next Millionaire Maker. I will be playing a lot more satellites each weekend leading up to the tournament to get more tickets at a cheaper cost. I will be aiming for about 20-40 tickets into the next Millionaire Maker this time and will get started this weekend at the RBC Heritage.
The players leave Augusta and head to South Carolina and Harbour Town Golf Links for the RBC Heritage. The tournament has been played here since 1969. The course was designed by Pete Dye with help from Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. The course requires an accurate drive and approach as the fairways are narrow and the greens are small. With the small greens and lower than average GIR, I will also be targeting scrambling as a key stat. A look at the key stats I am targeting this week:
Well, I actually thought Spieth would be a little more expensive this week. He is still $1,500 more than the next guy so I will be avoiding him for the most part. I just can't see how he will be able to concentrate on this tournament after winning the Masters, especially with all the media obligations and everyone wanting a piece of him. I will pivot off in Tier 1 to the following guys.
Zach Johnson - $10,900 (Vegas Odds – 17/1)
Johnson is the 3rd most expensive golfer this week. He comes into this week after a T9 at Augusta, T20 at Valero, and a T9 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has done fairly well here in the past(T61,T48,2nd in last 3). In looking at his stats he fits the profile I'm looking for this week.
Jim Furyk - $10,400 (Vegas Odds – 21/1)
My second choice in Tier 1 is Furyk. He did miss the cut at Augusta but before that made every cut so far in 2015. He arrives in South Carolina to a course where he has won before(2010) and has made 13/16 cuts including 7 Top 10's. Furyk also fits the profile this week. Although he may not win he should secure a T10.
Luke Donald - $9,300 (Vegas Odds – 29/1)
Headlining Tier 2 this week is Luke Donald. He is more than due for a win at Harbour Town. His course history is definitely best in the field(2nd,T3,T37,2nd,T3,T2). Wow you say? Exactly what I was thinking! He has been up and down so far this year and not where he was last year but a tournament in which he has had success is the perfect spot to start trending upwards.
Webb Simpson - $9,200 (Vegas Odds – 34/1)
Webb is rolling along pretty well so far this year with only 1 Missed Cut at the Northern Trust. He has 2 top 10's as well and also finished T28 at the Masters. He has had success here at Harbour Town before(2nd,T52,T14,T14 last 4 trips). I was going to pick Charley Hoffman in this spot but settled on Webb because his ranks in the stats I am looking at are superior.
Russell Knox - $7,300 (Vegas Odds – 56/1)
Knox is a good choice this week for your GPP lineups. He has missed 3 cuts in 2015 but when he makes the cut he hasn't finished outside the Top 40 with 3 Top 20's and a Top 10. He played this tournament last year for the first time and finished T9. He definitely fits the profile for this week.
John Huh - $6,700 (Vegas Odds – 81/1)
I will be feeling safe with Huh in my Cash Game lineups this week for a few reasons. First, he never really flashes and competes for a win. He has however made 5 straight cuts with 2 Top 20's in there. At $6,700 that is acceptable. Throw in the fact he finished T3 here last year and has better stat ranks this year and you got a nice pick for your cash games.
Jason Bohn - $5,800 (Vegas Odds – 101/1)
Jason Bohn comes in at $5,800 and what I noticed when evaluating Vegas Odds and salaries is that there are 8 other golfers with higher price tag than Bohn but worse odds. This smells of value to me. He missed the cut here last year and hasn't really has a good course history but his stats profile definitely fits the course and for under $6K I will take a shot in a few GPP's.
