Draftster has a ton of cool stuff going on including the a whole host of Freerolls.
Reminder: This article explores Draftster-specific value and will hone in on some of the major pricing differences we see there. Much like DraftKings, the Draftster model has wider range of salaries, offering some fantastic punt-play value. Keep this in mind.
Tom Brady - $6000
I really think Draftster contests will be won and lost with the quarterback position this week. There are simply so many great arms going that the choices here are really tough. I mean, Manning, Rodgers, Brady, Luck, Romo, Wilson, Flacco and um, Newton. That’s a pretty fantastic group all things considered. So how do we sort it all out? Price is a good way to start. Brady comes in as the 7th most expensive of that group. Only Flacco is behind him. So you are getting a QB who threw for over 3,000 yards, to go with 29 touchdowns against a defense that allowed the fifth most total passing yards this season? Easy one right? I think so. I think the Patriots let Brady throw all day long against this squad and he racks it up. And even if they went semi-conservative, he is still so cheap that I would have him in my Draftster lineups.
Peyton Manning - $7300
If I didn’t go Brady, I think I’m going here. Ever heard of the guy? While I think the Broncos will be more inclined to run in this one, Manning does have value at this price. Again, if push comes to shove, I like the price point on Brady much more, but if you are liking the other pieces of your lineup and have the money to spare, Manning does project for a few more raw points in our system.
Demarco Murray - $5900
No brainer here. He is the most talented running back on the slate and yet is the sixth most expensive one. Wouldn’t even think twice about it here and I doubt your competitors will either. The game conditions will be cold and the Cowboys are going to need to run in order to keep the Packers off of the field. Murray was the best RB in football this season from a statistical perspective. You are getting a fantastic price on him and I really don’t need to go through all of the superlatives.
CJ Anderson - $7600
He’s expensive for sure. But I think you are getting enough cheaper value through Murray and some of the wide receivers that spending up a little on Anderson is a fine play. Though he saw some of his work give way to Hillman late in the season, I think that was more a rest thing than an actual strategy going forward for the Broncos. It will be Anderson all day in this one and the Broncos showed they are more than happy force-feeding him the rock for an entire game. The Colts are in the bottom third of the league in average yards per carry. This is a nice way to get some bigger money in on the slate.
Consider Mashawn Lynch as the Panthers also allow a high yards per carry average.
Julian Edelman - $3200
Unlike many other DFS outfits, Draftster’s algorithm does price correct down for injuries. That means you have some sick value coming your way when a dude has been out for an extended period of time. Enter Edelman who hasn’t played since 12/14 because of concussion issues. But he should be good to go in this one and you are staring at a WR with 135 targets on the season coming in at a punt price. This one is very easy. As long as he’s cleared to play you have to have him in Draftster lineups. Actually, I would say that anyone who doesn’t have him in a lineup is coming in near dead money right from Jump Street.
Steve Smith - $4200
If he is on Revis-Island this price will be no bueno of course. But for a dude seeing the team-high in targets this season, including seven last week that he turned into 5/101) then I think you can take a shot on him at this price. There’s decent reason to suspect the Ravens will be playing catchup in this one as they are a 7 point dog going into New England. And Flacco will be forced to air it out a bit more down the stretch. Smith’s price is really what I’m going after here. He is simply too cheap for a teams WR1 that you are almost forced, on the short slate, to get him in lineups and hope for the best. Even if he is blanketed by one of the best CB’s in the game.
TY Hilton- $6900
If looking to spend up at WR in this format then I think you are getting the best deal on Hilton. It was clear that come playoff time last week, Andrew Luck was happy to target his top wide receiver over and over and over. Hilton saw 15 looks, turning it into 6/103. Considering the flow of this game is going to mean the Colts will have to hang in this one with a lot of points (Denver is 7 point favorites with a 54 o/u) Hilton should see enough volume to pay it off.
Rob Gronkowski - $7200
You are going to have to break the bank for the guy. That much is obvious. But he’s so far and away better than the other tight end options from a raw points perspective that if you can fit him in your lineups with some of the other savings across the slate then you are getting money in pretty good. It’s a little of an overpay for sure, but even at his price he is still a better points/$ play than guys like Witten or Olsen. That says a lot considering the tag. He is almost assured to see more than ten targets in this one and is a significant red zone threat. Look, I’m not telling you anything new here. He’s the best tight end in football and it isn’t that close. You are only concerned with whether or not to spend the money. I think you should.
