Right as you realize how much Tuesdays suck you can tune into the Music City Bowl when the Tigers battle the Fighting Irish. The only thing giving Notre Dame a chance in this one is Everett Golson. Golson is far from a polished drop back quarterback, but he is as athletic as anyone and if he is in zone, making good decisions, he can wreak havoc on just about anyone. He will have to be just that because LSU is a top 10 defense (8). The player to keep an eye on for the Tigers is Leonard Fornette. He is expected to become a super star for LSU, but his freshman has been somewhat underwhelming. The Tigers do have a talented backfield so there was no need to rush him into service, but when given the opportunity he has shown flashes of what’s to come. I think Fornette may give the entire nation a glimpse of what’s to come against Notre Dame. Sorry Irish, this won’t be your day.
Players to Watch
(LSU) Leonard Furnette
(ND) Everett Golson/Malik Zaire, Tarean Folson, Will Fuller
Fantasy Analysis
I won’t have a ton of exposure to this game because it just doesn’t match up well. In general, I really like the big three from ND, but LSU is legit on defense and the risk of missing value is greater than I like for cash games. LSU has been gashed, at times, by the run this year so Folson could find some room and you can never discount a freakish athlete at quarterback. The potential is there, but the safety is not. Had Fornette received consistent volume I would be all over him, but he doesn’t, so I’m not. My gut says he crushed it so I will be running him a bunch in GPP’s, but depending how the money shakes out I’m just not sure he will be in my cash lineups.

Welcome to the Belk Bowl in what should shape up to be a great game between Louisville and Georgia. The Bulldogs finished 9-3 and mostly without Todd Gurley. That’s not bad in the SEC. The reason you ask? Nick Chubb. This dude has the dash and gash from every which way. He’s not Todd Gurley, but he is Nick Chubb and that’s pretty dang good. Louisville is tough on defense, but playing in the SEC means that won’t be anything new for Chubb or the dogs. Louisville is being mum on the availability of Reggie Bonnafon, possibly just to keep Georgia off the scent, so we’ll have to wait and see if it will be Bolin or Bonnafon. Louisville’s defense is their strength and they will once again rely on their D to make plays and create good starting field position for the offense. DeVante Parker is an elite receiver so Georgia will need to keep tabs on him or he could do some serious damage. In the end, I think Georgia will grind its way to a victory
Players to Watch
(UL) Bonnafan/Bolin, Brandon Radcliff, DeVante Parker
(Geo) Nick Chubb
Fantasy Analysis
I really hope Louisville announces their starter and it’s not a platoon scenario. Bonnafon and Bolin both offer decent value, although with some modest risk. Getting a QB at these prices can really benefit the overall strength of your lineup. It will be a wait and see approach before deciding to pull the trigger on either QB. Bolin did great in relief for Bonnafon, but having thrown only 38 passes all year it’s kind of tough to feel confident. Chubb is the wild card because you will need to pay up to get him, but history suggests he won’t have a problem hitting 3x his price. I look for 4x, but at his price tag locking up a solid 3x isn’t all that bad an idea. The Cardinals can be tough up front so there is some risk there, but I think his track record and expected volume are enough to put him out there.

And here we are, the Foster Farms Bowl. The folks on the West Coast should be happy they get to watch their Cardinal take on the Terps from Maryland. The first thing that stands out to me about this game is the 14 point edge Vegas is giving Stanford, it’s just not enough. The only rub, and I mean only rub, is how motivated will Stanford be? The program has grown accustom to success at the highest level and playing in the Foster Farms Bowl, (that’s Foster Farms people), is probably not what they had in mind. Outside of motivation Maryland has no business being on the field for this one. The physicality of Stanford is going to be too much for Maryland to overcome. CJ Brown, while dreamy, is really just an athlete with a string arm. He has no business dropping back and trying to pass on this defense (or any for that matter). That physicality should also allow Stanford to dictate on offense as well. Get the ice packs ready MD, the smart guys are gonna put a thumpin on ya.
Players to Watch
(Stan) Kevin Hogan, Remound Wright, Devon Cajuste
(MD) CJ Brown
Fantasy Analysis
I’m not even going to discuss Maryland guys. Play them at your own peril. Stanford, on the other hand offers some choice options. Since they aren’t an offensive juggernaut their prices are somewhat discounted. Hogan isn’t flashy, but he gets it done and 2-3 total touchdowns are a reasonable expectation and that’s enough to pay his price. Ty Montgomery is a GTD and if he is out I think Cajuste warrants strong consideration. Wright wont pile up the yards, but six touchdowns in his last two games is more than a fluke. He has seen an increased workload and especially near the goal line.

Hump day is here and may I suggest you grab a peach during your lunch break. The Peach Bowl kicks off at 12:30pm EST featuring the TCU Horned Frogs squaring off against the Rebels from Ole Miss. This is a matchup between two teams that had higher expectations coming into the season. Ole Miss was cruising during the early going, even ranked #1 at a time, and then suffered a few losses down the home stretch. Ole Miss is a well-rounded team littered with upper classman. That kind of experience on both sides of the ball should help them against a very stout TCU team. Bo Wallace is prone to the turnover bug now and again, but when he takes care of the ball the offense can be a force to reckon with. The Rebels feature one of the best groups of DB’s in the country and will surely get after Boykin & Co. Speaking of Boykin, boy did he turn the corner this season. A much improved passer, Boykin turned in a spectacular season finishing with over 3700 yards passing and 30 touchdowns to only 7 picks. He also added another 650 yards rushing along with 8 more touchdowns. Ole Miss is good, but they will need to come up with some stops in this one to emerge victorious.
Players to Watch
(TCU) Treyvone Boykin, Aaron Green, Josh Doctson
(Miss) Bo Wallace, Vince Sanders, Evan Engram
Fantasy Analysis
This is a tough game to hitch your wagon to. TCU’s offense is potent, but Ole Miss’ defense is legit. Who wins this battle is anyone’s guess and that’s what makes it a gamble. Boykin will cost you some dollars and facing one of the best secondaries makes it a little risky to spend big on him. If Boykin is to hit value he will have to have one of his better rushing performances, as I don’t think he will be able to pass his way to value in this one. Their receivers are in the same boat. Getting separation may be tough so it could be a long day for Doctson & Gray. Ole Miss is a fine offense and well balanced, but they spread the ball around too much to really key in on their guys, both in real life and in the DFS world. Treadwell is their leading receiver with 48 grabs and 5 touchdowns (injury, doubtful). Meanwhile three other receivers have at least 37 grabs, see my point? Vince Sanders is sneaky good. Fun game to watch, not as many fantasy options as you would think.

Nothing says Fiesta Bowl like Buffalo Chicken dip and a bag of Tostitos (multi grain scoops to be specific). This game kicks off at 4pm and I strongly advise you handle whatever business you need to handle prior to that. Boise and Arizona should put on a show well worth the price of admission. Vegas says about 68 points will be scored and my Magic 8-Ball says it could be even more than that. Zona is the better team; they may not have the best player on the field, but they are deep and talented. Richy Rod runs some version of the pistol offense and when things are clicking points fly around like they’re on special. Nick Wilson emerged as the starting tailback and this freshman has not disappointed. Wilson racked up almost 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns on just 217 carries. Boise’s defense will have their hands full. The Wildcats will also have their hands full with the Boise offense. Jay Ajayi, the best player on the field, has declared for the draft and something tells his swan song could be one to remember. Ajayi ran for almost 1700 yards and a whopping 25 rushing touchdowns. Oh, he also has over 500 yards receiving and another 5 scores. This is a great RB duel and definitely one to watch.
Players to Watch
(Boise) Grant Hedrick, Jay Ajayi, Thomas Sperbeck, Shane Williams-Rhodes
(AZ) Anu Solomon, Nick Wilson, Samajie Grant
Fantasy Analysis
This is a game you will want to gain as much exposure as possible. The only issue is the price tags. Ajayi comes in at elite prices and for obvious reasons. Zona’s defense is well below average statistically, but they played a tough schedule that includes some high powered offenses. They were good enough to hold Oregon to 24 pts earlier in the year (although Oregon dropped 51 on them in Championship game). Boise’s passing game has disappeared over the past couple weeks, but I still think Sperbeck and SWR are still firmly in play. Grant is the receiver to target for the Wildcats, assuming he is playing after his off the field issues. But I would focus on Solomon and Wilson as the main guys to grab from Zona.

As Hump Day transitions to drink your face off and make resolutions you have no intention of keeping, you can tune into the Orange Bowl and watch Dak Prescott’s Bulldogs take on the Ramblin Wreck or Yellow Jackets, or simply Georgia Tech. Tech is always fun to watch because of their misdirection option offense and some teams are able to prepare and some are not. State is strong up front and as long as they remain disciplined and hold their gaps Tech may find it difficult to get things going. One thing about GT is they are a more capable passing team than in seasons past. Thomas only passed for about 1600 yards, but with a solid 17/5 TD to INT ratio teams cannot totally ignore the pass. The downside about Tech is I don’t think they have the defense to stop Dak very often and if they get down their offense is not built to come from behind. The Mississippi State run game is going to be a difficult task for Georgia Tech’s defense and, quite frankly, I don’t think they have the talent to stop them. Robinson is a human bowling ball and Prescott is a tank. Dak can also pass the ball, so it’s not like teams can stack the box against them. State rolls.
Players to Watch
(Miss St.) Dak Prescott, Josh Robinson, De’Runnya Wilson
(GTech) Justin Thomas, Synjyn Days, Dareen Waller
Fantasy Analysis
I like this game a bunch, but it’s a one way street for me. The street is Mississippi State Avenue. The big 3 will see most of my cash lineups. All of their prices are well below their peaks and while Techs defense isn’t bad, they aren’t great. Robinson is one of my favorite value plays of the week. I likely won’t run a single Tech player in any lineup, but I guess you could make the argument. Sometimes teams just have a tough time with the option and if that’s the case then Thomas and Days should get you some stats. It’s just not my cup of tea. Waller is very interesting though. I think you will see more passing than usual from tech in an effort to keep pace and Waller could be the main beneficiary. He could be a very sneaky GPP play.
