Game Preview
Wednesday opens with the inaugural Bahamas Bowl, because why not? Sometime a little after 12pm EST Central Michigan will take on Western Kentucky under the Caribbean sun. Good thing there won’t be any distractions because this game should be fun to watch. Western Kentucky runs a high octane offense capable of scoring points by the dozen (6th FBS Total Offense). They also give up points by the dozen (120th FBS Total Defense). The Hilltoppers offense is led by 6th year quarterback Brandon Dougherty and stud running back Leon Allen. Dougherty and Allen present a very difficult matchup for the Chippewas and they will surely be tested. Central Michigan ranks 18th against the run and 16th in overall defense so it won’t be a total cake walk for WKY. Thomas Rawls has been ruled out due to academics and that’s a significant blow for the Chippewa offense. The Michigan transfer ran for over 1100 yards and 10 touchdowns in just 9 games. Titus Davis can create matchup problems on the outside and should find some space against this porous secondary. Davis has now scored 8+ touchdowns in each of his four seasons and he will be needed again in order for CMU to keep up.
Players to Watch:
(WKY) Brandon Dougherty, Leon Allen, Everyone else
(CMU) Cooper Rush, Titus Davis
Fantasy Analysis:
This game is the fantasy equivalent to the wife bringing me a sixer of talls (something cheap) with some beef jerky and taking the kids out, for the weekend. WKY can score on basically anyone, but they can’t stop anyone either. Dougherty and Allen are expensive, but easily worth the money. Dougherty is my top rated cash game quarterback on the board. Their receivers are cheap because they spread the ball around, but they all make reasonably safe plays at the mid to lower end of the pay scale. They usually won’t totally crush their price because due to the amount of mouths to feed, but the potential is still there. CMU offers a few prime cuts as well. Had Rawls been active he would have been near the top of my list, but kids let this be a lesson, you need to get the grades to play the game. Titus Davis is pretty much a lock for me and Rush presents extreme potential compared to his price. He may be a little risky for cash games, but you could sway me. Spalding makes an excellent GPP play assuming the role of RB1, but this is gonna be a time share so you should probably keep him out of your cash lineups.
Game Preview:
While you’re sipping on your 15th rum-infused glass of egg nog patiently waiting for your wonderful (snicker) family to go home so you can secretly put all the gifts under the tree, you should tune in to the Hawaii Bowl. Always a favorite bowl game for coaches and players since the trip to Hawaii is an enjoyable one. I’m having a tough time getting a read on this game so that tells me it should be closely contested. Fresno has been up and down all year, but when things are clicking they can hang with most schools. Marteze Waller in the backfield and Josh Harper on the outside are the two guys that drive this Bulldog offense. Rice is led by Driphus Jackson finished the year with 21 passing touchdowns to 8 interceptions. Dillard & Davis are capable backs and both have run well at times throughout the year. On the outside Jackson throws the ball to Jordan Taylor & Mario Hull who have both had solid seasons. Cheers and Merry Christmas.
Players to Watch:
(Fresno) Marteze Waller, Josh Harper
(Rice) Driphus Jackson, Dillard/Davis, Taylor/Hull
Fantasy Analysis:
Its true Fresno has been up and down all year. Up on offense and down on defense. I really like Jackson and both receivers in this game. They are all reasonably priced and I would argue they are at or near the top in value plays. All 3 will find many of lineups, both cash and GPP. I’m more iffy on the backs since they split the workload. Both are worth a flier. On the other side I really like Waller a lot. He had a minor injury towards the end of the season which resulted in some weak stat lines. The price has dipped and it’s to your advantage. Waller will see a ton of my lineups as one of the best values at the position. Harper won’t see a ton of my lineups, but it’s only because I’m choosing to spend dollars elsewhere. That being said, his price is reasonable and should hit value.
