Quarterback

Russell Wilson-$5800
Let me start by saying that any time you start a quarterback against a strong defense you need to consider the ceiling lower than usual. This doesn’t mean you can’t do it of course, there is a price point for everyone (Like you’d start Aaron Rodgers for $1 if he was playing the ‘85 Bears to use a ridiculous example). My point being that even though Wilson is facing a fine-enough defense in the Cardinals, the price here more than warrants a safer play. To begin, Arizona’s strength is by and large, in stopping the run. Wilson will have opportunities to throw in this one. Additionally, he is able to keep his floor high because he gains so many yards on the ground. I don’t think he completely crushes this price, but in terms of a safer cash game play, on Draftster he’s your guy.

Eli Manning-$4800
Would consider this more of a Draftster GPP play. Eli is Eli of course so you are going to need to grin and bare the idea that he might get steamrolled here. The Rams are a top ten defense against both the run and the pass so there’s that. But Eli, with a weapon like ODBJ on his side, has major upside. I wouldn’t consider the guy at all safe, but twice in the last four games he’s thrown for three touchdowns. He is coming in very close to the minimums I think the flow of the game could mean he is throwing the ball enough to cover the salary.

 

Running Backs

Joseph Randle-$3000
Not really going out on any kind of limb here with Dunbar. A majority of the industry will be on him this week as he has been taking the first team RB reps now that Demarco Murray is on the shelf. Getting a starting running back, behind a quality offensive line, for a team that likes to lean on the ground game is something you really can’t pass up on. I suspect as long as news maintains that he will be the starting running back, he will be the most popular play in this, and really any other, format.

Andre Williams-$3000
Obviously this is subject to the status of Rashad Jennings, though that isn’t looking good for the latter. Williams isn’t a good running back. But for 3K he doesn’t need to be. He basically just needs to get handed the ball 15 times, get across the line of scrimmage and if he finds his way into the end zone you are good. He’s the cheapest player on the site (along with Randle obviously) and there is enormous upside in the opportunity completely outpacing the salary.

Joique Bell-$5600
Look, you are going to need to spend somewhere. You can’t punt it across the board. ANd Bell is falling in that mid-tier of prices that could destroy his number. He’s clearly the RB1 for the Lions and has averaged over four yards per carry over the last three weeks. He’s also just enough of the passing game out of the backfield that his floor stays that much higher. And he’s scoring touchdowns. How many other things you want me to mention here? The Bears are about average when it comes to defending the run and Bell should see enough touches to pay it off.

 

Wide Receivers

Harry Douglas-$3700
This pick is obviously contingent on Julio Jones sitting again. Jones hasn’t practiced at all this week and I suspect the big guy will sit again, leaving Douglas to pick up many of the targets. Last week with Jones out Douglas saw 14 targets for a line of 10/131. He obviously isn’t a favorite for a repeat performance no matter the situation, but that he became such a big part of the offense so quickly is a fantastic sign. The Saints on D are in the bottom third in defending the pass and are especially bad on yards per attempt. I love getting Douglas so cheap if Jones sits and if that’s the case he’ll be in all of my Draftster lineups.

Odell Beckham Jr.-$7500
At this point you know the drill with this guy. Manning looks at him as the first, second and third option. And the guy converts. The last two weeks Beckham has seen a total of 30 targets (15 each week) for a combined 24/273/4. That’s about as good as you’ll ever see from anyone ever. The big news with Odell is as I said before, just how often Manning looks his way. The best way to assume production for a WR (which is never easy) is to evaluate the opportunity and decide if it is repeatable. Will the QB continue looking his way even in light of possible defensive adjustments. Eli has shown time and time again that he picks his guys and will stick with them for better or worse. I think that’s the case again this week and I’m taking Beckham as a safer play.

Vincent Jackson-4200
Assume a couple of things about this game. One: the Bucs will be playing from behind for most (all) of it. They are eleven point dogs and there’s no reason to think that they won’t be playing catchup for the entirety. V-Jax has 17 and 10 targets respectively over the last two weeks as they’ve transitioned from throwing deep to Mike Evans on seemingly every play. Great value here considering the usage.

 

Tight Ends

Greg Olsen-$5700
The good news for Olsen is that it kind of doesn’t matter who is playing quarterback for the Panthers. He sees a ton of looks no matter what. Two weeks ago with Cam? Eleven targets. Last week with Derek Anderson? Thirteen targets. It’s all good. He’s one of the most widely, and consistently used tight ends in any offense in the NFL. There is quite a bit of safety in that considering the nature of the tight end in the current state of NFL offenses.

Mychal Rivera-$3300
If you are looking to go uber-cheap at tight end (not a terrible strategy) then grabbing a punt play like Rivera could be enough to hit value. He’s by no means a sure thing (priced accordingly) but does see some run in the offense and has had a few big games here and there (mostly there, and that’s the end of my parentheticals). The Raiders play down enough that they are forced to pass. And though he isn’t option A or B, getting option C at this price at this position is fine enough.
