Looking for the week 11 picks? Follow the link! I go position by position and give you whom I believe to be the best plays, dollar for dollar, for Week 11's games. This article is going to be a little bit different. Instead, I'm going to focus on particular lineup formation strategies that might help you get some separation from the field and get those value plays and sleepers that will let you spend money elsewhere while cashing in for cheap.
Weekly disclaimer:
The whole concept of a sleeper in one week fantasy football games needs to be adjusted. First of all, there's no real such thing as a "sleeper," in that you're not really going to sleep on a guy until he wakes up. What you're looking at with cheap plays are guys who are priced very reasonably who could go off if all things break right. Sniffing out the best cheap plays with upside is really the only way to have a chance in hell at taking down some of these utterly massive NFL tournaments. You'll pay up for the big names, and then hope your bargain plays pay off. That's where we come in - here are some sleepers that we love for Week 11.
We also talked about a lot of these plays in our week 11 podcast, but there are some new faces as well!
Mark Sanchez - FD 6900 DK 5800 DD 11500 DFSTR 6600
Not a whole lot to say about this pick. It's not especially controversial. Chip Kelly's offensive genius allows guys like the Sanchize, or Nick Foles, to succeed. It's fast paced, confusing for defenses, and doesn't ask the QB to do a whole lot. Sanchez flexed the upside last week with 300+ yards in 2 touch downs. I think he's capable of that and possibly more in a game where the Eagles actually have to keep up with another great offense.
Alfred Blue - FD 6400 DK 3000 DD 5450 DFSTR 3000
It's official - . This leaves Alfred Blue as the sole proprietor of a team that just inherited Ryan Mallett as its quarterback. Let's be clear - Blue is an uninspiring talent - but the Browns aren't exactly the Steel Curtain out there, and Blue should get a solid 20 touches against the league's 5th worst defense. There's a lot of upside built into that price, and I'll certainly be a buyer. I just can't imagine them turning Mallett loose when they were so guarded with the veteran Fitzpatrick.
Jerick McKinnon - FD 5500 DK 4800 DD 7300 DFSTR 4300
The hate has gone too far! While it's very troubling for McKinnon's upside that Asiata got all of the work inside the 10 last week, you're still looking at a running back who will almost certainly get 15+ touches at the barest of prices. And it's not like McKinnon is one of these Tre Mason types. He's averaging 5.3 yards per carry, and is more than capable of putting up a huge run. The Bears have been a middle of the pack defense against the run this year, and were the worst in the league last year. I'm not saying McKinnon will score 20 fantasy points, but on these prices, it doesn't matter.
Jonathan Stewart - FD 5100 DK 3400 DD 6650 DFSTR 4100
We're getting into the deep and ugly at this point. Stewart is not much of a talent at this point his career, and Deangelo Williams is set to play this weekend... but Stewart DID get 15 touches in a game where the Panthers got smoked by the Eagles. If the Panthers are hanging in this one, I suspect they'll try to not expose Cam Newton. This could mean a healthy allotment of touches for Stewart once again, on prices that make any starting running back blush. Atlanta's 24th ranked run defense is certainly helping matters again. It's a risky play, but you could do a lot worse than getting a clear goal line back with double digit prices for back-up RB prices.
C.J. Anderson - FD 6500 DK 4800 DD 7350 DFSTR 5900
FanDuel isn't exactly giving him away, but the prices here are still excellent for a guy who should slide right into the Ronnie Hillman role. Anderson showed a big play ability out of the backfield that the Broncos have been sorely lacking this year, and while it looks like Monte Ball will be folded into the mix, Anderson makes for a high upside play in a match-up that should get out of hand pretty quickly, allowing all the Denver backfield guys to get touches against the Rams 7th worst run defense.
Andrew Hawkins - FD 5300 DK 4100 DD 8350 DFSTR 3300
So, Hawkins dealt with a little injury there and posted a crappy game. I feel you. But our projection system has been on him all season long, and it's not giving up yet! The fact is that Hawkins is still the Browns' most targeted receiver (I know, I know, it's like being the most honest Congressman) and paid this current ridiculous version of his price going away in back to back weeks before his stinker. Houston has given up the 3rd most yards to opposing wide receivers on a per game basis, and getting a team's #1 receiver in a situation like that for $5,300 on FanDuel is downright ridiculous.
Jordan Matthews - FD 5500 DK 4500 DD 7400 DFSTR 4400
I wrote about him in our week 11 picks article, so this is just a reminder: He's gotten 24 targets in the past three weeks, and is the heavy favorite to continue to see targets if Shady McCoy continues his death march and Chip Kelly isn't quite ready to turn the deep ball over to Sanchez. In what rates to be a very high scoring game, Matthews could see crazy volume at, again, very reasonable prices.
Dwayne Bowe - FD 6100 DK 5100 DD 8400 DFSTR 3700
Don't look now but, seriously, don't look now. In all seriousness, the once #1 receiver has been targeted 22 times over the course of the last two games, and seems to have found his role in the 2014 Kansas City offense. It's not totally clear to me how the Seahawks will deploy Sherman this week, and I certainly like Hawkins and Matthews better, but this is a home-run separation play that could pay off.
