Total Bases
Michael Cuddyer
Wilin Rosario
Both are put in the perfect spot today. They are facing a lefty in Coors. Both Rosario and Cuddyer are among the league leaders this season against lefty pitching. Granted both have been sidelined some this season, so the samples are small. But their historical averages completely back up the play here against Miley. Though Wade has strikeout potential, and there are a few other solid plays in this format, without the salary constraints you can play these guys no problem. Between the splits and the matchup combined with the ballpark, there could be a lot of bases to go around.
Hits
Victor Martinez
If you've read this column you know that for the hits column V-Mart is one of the best options in the right kind of matchup. This is one of them. Jeremy Guthrie strikes out less than 5.5 batters per nine and V-Mart is nearly impossible for righties to strike him out. Martinez strikes out only 6% of the time in that split. That is great news when searching for hits because the contact expectation is just so high. He walks a little bit, but this is a solid place for hits.
Scooter Gennett
Gennett is very much in the same spot. He is facing low strikeout guy Vance Worley and is significantly better (to a laughable degree) against righty pitching. He never walks so you can assume the ball is getting put in play today against Worley. He has a 26% LD% against righties and I don't think many other people will be on him today in this format.
Strikeouts
Stephen Strasburg
The top strikeout guy on the day and it isn't even close. The gap to the next guy is huge. The real question becomes where to play him, in the 9K or 7K slot? I'm inclined to go for it with Strasburg today against the Stanton-less Marlins. Even with Giancarlo the Marlins struck out close to 24% of the time against righties and ranked in the middle of the pack. They are worse without him of course and Strasburg could really dial it up today.
Scott Kazmir
The Phillies are brutal against lefties, ranking in the bottom third of the league in team wOBA in that platoon. Kazmir isn't a huge K guy, striking out only 7.5 K's per nine innings. So getting him even to six strikeouts in a game is a bit of a push. But the Phillies strike out more than 21% of the time against lefties and Kazmir should be able to go deeper in this game.
