Pitchers

Felix Hernandez - FD 10800 DK 12200 DD 21150 DFSTR 8000
He's seen a dip in his strikeouts lately and that has me a little concerned. He's had more than four K's in a game only once in his last four starts. Granted, he faced some teams that don't strike out a ton, but the dip has me just a little iffy on him. But everything else is lining up to start King Felix. He's pitching in Safeco against the Astros who rank in the bottom third of the league against righties and strike out more than 22% of the time. He's going to cost you, but I think he makes a nice cash game play as you should be able to afford his salary.

Marcus Stroman - FD 7200 DK 6800 DD 11950 DFSTR 3000
There's actually a decent amount to like with this matchup. The Cubs are pretty bad against righties on the season, and not much of that has changed with the addition of some of the young names they've brought up recently. They strike out a ton, 23% of the time against righties and that kind of K bump for a pitcher means something. Stroman is a -173 favorite today and has been pretty efficient this season with his peripherals. The xFIP is in the low threes and I see him as a good GPP/ 2 SP pitcher today.

Shelby Miller - FD 6000 DK 6300 DD 11850 DFSTR 5700
If you feel like he's been starting to fix what ails him, then Miller makes an interesting play against the Reds today. He's struggled this season, especially in generating strikeouts. But he had a nice outing last game and the Reds are a bottom feeding team on offense. He's coming relatively cheap because the season-long performance has been rough. But there might be signs of hope.

Dylan Axelrod - FD 4200
If you feel like the new-found K stuff is real then he makes a crazy bargain on FanDuel.

Catchers

Jonathan Lucroy - FD 3100 DK 4300 DD 8850 DFSTR 5400
Coming in the mid salary range in a number of spots today and has a great matchup against Brad Penny. Lucroy, along with a number of his Brewer teammates, should be able to do damage against a guy who probably should have just stayed out of baseball. Penny's been terrible on the mound this season, walking more batters than he strikes out and rocking an xFIP in the low 5's. Penny stinks. Lucroy's hit righties real well this season with a mid .800's OPS and should be able to add to that today.

Yadier Molina - FD 2700 DK 3500 DD 8050 DFSTR 4500
It's a little tough recommending dudes against Axelrod considering the kind of strikeout stuff he's put up in his first few starts. That being said, Axelrods numbers have come out of nowhere and that typically doesn't happen with pitchers. If you think his K rate comes back down to Earth, throwing a few Cards in against him isn't the worst idea.

First Basemen

Going teammates here:

Adam Lind - FD 2500 DK 3500 DD 7800 DFSTR 4300
Edwin Encarnacion - FD 3900 DK 5000 DD 11050 DFSTR 9300
I know Jacob Turner was good last time out against the Brewers. I'm not letting that effect my judgment too terribly much considering it was by far his best start and there is nothing in his underlying numbers that would suggest it's going to become his norm. He remains a guy that struggles to put away batters and is pitching in a hitter's park today. Both Lind and E5 rank among the leaders this season in hitting righty pitching, both with over a .900 OPS in that split. Both are coming in different price tiers and I think play either at the same points/ $ multiplier.

Adam Dunn - FD 2800 DK 4100 DD 8750 DFSTR 8400
Brandon Moss - FD 2500 DK 3800 DD 9200 DFSTR 3000
Like the guys above, these two guys are facing a weaker arm in a great hitter's park. U.S. Cellular boosts power all around and Hector Noesi isn't a big strikeout guy and has an xFIP in the low 4's. Both Moss and Dunn hit righties much better than lefties and both make cheaper upside plays today.

Second Basemen

Robinson Cano - FD 3200 DK 4700 DD 10450 DFSTR 4900
He's still coming way too cheap on FanDuel considering he's been on of the best hitters in baseball facing righties this season. Cano's 152 wRC+ and .398 wOBA show a guy tagging righty pitching this season and he gets to face Brad Peacock who struggles with his command at times. That's bad news against Cano as the latter is tough to strike out anyway. Don't love the park, but the price is too cheap to pass up in some spots.

Scooter Gennett - FD 3000 DK 3200 DD 6750 DFSTR 3000
He can only hit righties, but he hits them pretty well. Gennett has a mid .800's OPS and .361 wOBA against righties this season and should be hitting near the top of the order against Brad Penny.

Shortstops

Jose Reyes - FD 3400 DK 5000 DD 9150 DFSTR 8400
I'm on some of the Blue Jays bats today against Jacob Turner because I don't like the pitcher's chances of all of a sudden becoming a big K guy literally overnight. I think Turner gets knocked around today by the Blue Jays in a hitter's park. Reyes, though you'll have to pay for him, is the best offensive shortstop going on the day. He has some pop and can steal bases which raises his floor. He's hit righties fine enough but Jose's biggest bonus is hitting at the top of the order in front of guys like Joey Bats and Encarnacion.

Jed Lowrie - FD 2300 DK 3200 DD 7250 DFSTR 3000
Don't love him as any kind of offensive dynamo, but he can take a walk and is about league average against righties. Facing Noesi in U.S. Cellular is what gives him the boost here and he's coming cheap across the board if you don't want to pay up for Reyes.

Consider Hanley Ramirez

Third Basemen

Aramis Ramirez - FD 2600 DK 4000 DD 7700 DFSTR 3000
He's much better against lefties of course, but there are some pitcher matchups that I want to be on and out system has Aramis as a value even in the wrong side of his splits against Penny. Though Aramis a tick below average against righty pitching, Penny's ineptitude makes up for it. The ballpark helps as well as Miller Park really boosts power for righty bats. Again, it's weird buying when the platoon splits tell a different story, but I think you can target the matchup.

Kyle Seager - FD 3500 DK 4900 DD 9550 DFSTR 11400
He and Cano often show up on these lists at the same time because they of course always have the same matchup and Seager, like Cano, tunes up righty pitching. Actually Seager and Cano have nearly identical platoon splits against righties this season. Seager's .898 OPS and 153 wRC+ look awfully familiar and I like his sport against Peacock today.

Outfielders

Ryan Braun - FD 3300 DK 4800 DD 10950 DFSTR 3000
Maybe the drugs did matter. I don't know, but Braun hasn't been himself this season. His power numbers are down and he seems to be falling from that elite status. But the price has come down too and while he isn't a force anymore, he can still get it done. And these salaries are reaching a breaking point. Considering the matchup against Brad Penny and the ballpark, Braun's 114 wRC+ against righties this season plays just fine.

Yasiel Puig - FD 2600 DK 4200 DD 10850 DFSTR 3000
Kind of seems broken. He's struggled over the last month plus to generate any kind of consistency/ power/ fantasy goodness at all. It's been a struggle. And his prices have plummeted. He faces Omar Despaigne, a guy that doesn't strike anyone out on a consistent basis. That should help Puig a bit today as he tries to find the things that made him so intriguing.

Coco Crisp - FD 3300 DK 4500 DD 9400 DFSTR 7500
There are a number of A's I'm buying on today as they have a nice matchup against Noesi in Chicago. U.S. Cellular is a true hitter's park, raising power expectation from both sides of the plate. And Crisp, while not a masher, walks more than he strikes out against righties (14% to 12%) and provides value coming at the top of the order.

Gerardo Parra - FD 2600 DK 3500 DD 7200 DFSTR 5600
Getting consistent playing time when righties are on the mound. He won't go crazy in the power department, or really any department, but he provides bits and pieces of points across a number of different categories that can make him a nice play on the cheap against Penny.

Consider Andrew McCutchen still coming cheap in spots against Kyle Kendrick

  1. Does Kershaw going today change anything? Also do you know why it wasn’t listed earlier?

    • I have him as same pts/$ on FD as Felix. I see them as interchangeable from a value standpoint depending on how you configure your bats.
