Writing this post as Mr. March takes me to the emergency room to treat an ankle that I broke yesterday. But that’s how we do in the DFSR. This machine doesn’t stop. Even with a non-displaced fracture to the left fibula. So please excuse us if these picks are bit truncated, medical situations and all.
Alex Cobb - FD 8300 DK 8300 DD 15000 SS 25200
Cobb's been pretty solid this season with his most dramatic change coming from an increased strikeout rate. He's facing a Cub team that’s been abhorrent against righty pitching, ranking near the bottom of the league in team wOBA and striking out around 22% of the time.
Zack Wheeler - FD 7700 DK 8400 DD 14800 SS 21500
Wheeler’s been about average this season which is fine when facing the Phillies who would love to be just average. They stink and come in at second to last in the league in facing righties. Wheeler needs to have his control on point in order to be truly dominant. The K stuff is there, but he walks too many guys. That being said, I’m buying here on the opponent as much as anything.
Alex Wood - FD 7700 DK 7000 DD 15000 SS NA
Our system is really liking the value on Wood today though I must admit I’m not totally seeing it. Could simply be a pricing thing as the Nats are actually decent against lefties. Wood is good though, striking out close to a batter an inning and sporting an xFIP in the low 3’s.
Charlie Morton - FD 6800 DK 6300 DD 13000 SS 18400
Morton is merely *meh but I’m considering buying here on the opponent. I know the Padres have had a moment of two or late. But they remain a terrible offensive team who’ve decided to not be the worst Babip-ing team in the history of the world anymore.
Consider Jason Hammel coming real cheap and Clayton Kershaw who is real expensive against the K-happy Brewers.
Devin Mesoraco - FD 3200 DK 4000 DD 8450 SS 7700
Great ballpark. Bad lefty. Nice splits. A little lucky this season. My cash game catcher for sure. He’s at solid prices and faces Brad Hand.
Mike Zunino - FD 2700 DK 2600 DD 8200 SS 5700
Bats last in the order which hurts his value. But even with a 30% K% against lefties this season, his split OPS is right around .800 with a 123 wRC+.
Strongly consider Jason Castro
Adam Dunn - FD 2800 DK 3300 DD 7650 SS 5800
Welcome back to the majors Erasmo Ramirez. Here’s to hoping it stays the status quo for you. At least for those of us hammering White Sox lefties all day. Don’t love the park, but everything else about this matchup for Dunn screams of value.
Jon Singleton - FD 3200 DK 3500 DD 8250 SS 5800
Singleton’s been atrocious against righties this season, though some of that is attributed to a .202 Babip. It doesn’t tell the whole story, but we can start there at least. Nick Martinez is about as bad a pitcher as you’ll see in the majors with an xFIP well over five.
Strongly consider Jose Abreu
Ian Kinsler - FD 3300 DK 4200 DD 9150 SS 7200
Comes at a discount every single time he plays a lefty. With Mark Buehrle beginning the not-so-slow regression train Kinsler is in a solid spot to capitalize. He’s been merely ho-hum against lefties this season, but look no further than his 3.8% Hr/FB rate and you can see why that OPS is on the low side.
Aaron Hill - FD 2900 DK 3900 DD 7700 SS 4600
If he’s in the lineup he makes a solid value play almost primarily on how bad Franklin Morales is against righty batters. Hill is kind of just a dude at this point, but the price is right nearly across the industry.
Dustin Pedroia - FD 3000 DK 4000 DD 9200 SS 7500
Still pumping out a mid .800’s OPS on the season which kind of surprised me. Facing an average lefty in Hector Santiago.
Dumping ground today. I hate everyone here.
Cliff Pennington - FD 2200 DK 2600 DD 5950 SS 2700
Should hit near top of order against Morales. So has that going for him.
Eugenio Suarez - FD 2200 DK 2900 DD 5100 SS 4400
Better against lefties. But hits in the nine hole.
Zack Cozart - FD 2600 DK 3300 DD 6400 SS 3500
Kill me.
Todd Frazier - FD 3100 DK 4400 DD 9550 SS 7600
Getting a little Babip help, but still doing a nice job against lefties this season with a 135 wRC+ and the .369 wOBA is nothing to sneeze at (if that’s something people actually do). Brad Hand blows bad and the ballpark only helps Frazier.
Nick Castellanos - FD 2400 DK 2800 DD 6500 SS 4500
For the prices he’s sitting at on most major sites, I’m more than happy to buy some shares of Nicky C. Coming close to the minimum in some spots on the better side of his split against Buehrle.
Consider David Wright even against the righty because he’s just so cheap (though kind of looks broken).
Mark Trumbo - FD 2800 DK 4100 DD 8000 SS 6000
And we had lift-off! Went yard last night after sitting as our cover boy for the day. Faces a worse lefty today in Franklin Morales who’s been completely crushed by righties over the short term and his career.
Mike Trout - FD 4600 DK 5300 DD 13400 SS 10200
Young Mike still coming at some discounted prices (for him) and is well worth a look against Rubby de la Rosa. Splits are inconsequential to Trout who’s equal opportunity when it comes to embarrassing pitchers.
Desmond Jennings - FD 3100 DK 4500 DD 7650 SS 7000
Trying to target the bad pitchers today. Looking at you Travis Wood. Jennings is a guy you want to by against lefties. He’s always been better in that platoon and this season has an OPS over .900 with an xFIP in the 150’s.
Curtis Granderson - FD 2600 DK 3500 DD 7900 SS 6400
Better against righties and has been slightly better than average on that side of the split this season. Coming cheaper against Kyle Kendrick in a solid hitter’s park.
Consider Robbie Grossman and Alejandro de Aza on the cheap.
