Total Bases

Mike Trout
The "No duh" pick of the day. Trout is a heavy favorite in the top slot today because he's Mike Trout and John Danks is John Danks and that's kind of a match made in heaven (if heaven were the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, which would be a cruel twist for everyone hoping for something a little better in the afterlife). Trout has been on a world-crushing tour this summer with an OPS over 1K and close to twenty home runs already. He kills you so many ways and will be one of the top picks in this slot today.

Chris Davis
This is a little riskier but I like Davis today because of the matchup and the park. He's right there to fill a high total base slot in just one swing. The HR/FB% is a little down for him this season and if you are worried about the K's a gentleman by the name of Miles Mikolas is on the mound today for the Rangers. This dude couldn't strike anyone out at the lower levels. Things don't get easier. Again, if you are looking for safety, go somewhere else. But Davis has big power upside today.

Hits

Howie Kendrick
If you read our daily picks article today you know that we were picking on John Danks. It's no different here. Kendrick is a contact guy and though the K's are there, the expectation for the swing and miss is reduced against Danks. Honestly, there are a bunch of righty Angels that would fit this slot today. No way to go wrong really. I'll take Kendrick but also really consider Aybar.

Ryan Braun
Ever heard of him? Like the Angels above, I'm also targeting Brewers today against J.A. Happ in Toronto. Braun's been on a hit parade over the last two weeks, hitting safely in nine of his last ten games. Though it's been reversed this season, for his career he's much better against lefty pitching with a 176 wRC+ ('roid fueled) over that span. Could make a case for him in the total bases category as well.

Strikeouts

Johnny Cueto
Going to go with the two studs in the top two spots today and won't think much about it. Cueto has a fantastic matchup against the terrible Padres who rank dead last in the league in wOBA against righty pitching. Cueto should be able to go long enough in this game to at least provide the chance to hit nine K's. He's not as good as the sub two ERA would lead you to believe, but he's been damned good nonetheless and the Padres are just so awful that I think you will see him in the top K slot across the board.

Adam Wainwright
This pick doesn't have close to the upside of Cueto, but he's the best pitcher going to take the second slot. Wainwright only K's about eight batters per nine which means he'll probably have to go fairly deep into this game. But the Giants are a below average offense against righties and strike out almost 22% of the time. I would go safety in the seven K slot and not even think about it too much. Wainwright is the guy there.
