Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for ScoreStreak 6/26/14

Total Bases

Ryan Braun
Once again, Braun is far and away the best option for total bases, so the system says. He faces Rockie lefty Christian Friedrich for the second time in a week. Welcome to the big leagues kid, your first two starts are against one of the best offensive teams in baseball. Friedrich didn't do as bad as one would think when you hear "MLB debut at Coors Field against the Brew Crew." He gave up four earned runs in six innings, although his defense let him down in a big way, and he gave up five more runs, unearned. Braun isn't crazy good against lefties this season, but 7 of his 18 hits are for extra bases. Gotta trust the system with such a clear cut favorite here.

Jose Reyes
Another top five play in the system today, but not for the home run power that Braun has. Reyes hits line drives all over the field, literally, his spray chart is as equally distributed as it gets. His BABIP is under .270, so he has even more room to improve for hits. Reyes draws Scott Carroll in the first game against the White Sox. In 11 games this season, Carroll is stumbling with a 4.98 xFIP. Carroll strikes out just as many batters as he walks, right around 3 or 4. Carroll's line driver percentage and home run-to-fastball ratio are both over league average. All in all, Reyes makes for a very solid play for the offense-powered Blue Jays.

Total Hits

Melky Cabrera
Another Blue Jay here. The White Sox pitchers have given up 89 hits (Wednesday night still in progress) in the last 10 games. You're simply not going to win games like that, and they haven't, going 3-7. Melky is sporting an average over .300 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs this season, and a likely all star appearance. Cabrera is one of only two players in the league, along with Jose Altuve, who have over 100 hits so far this season. Like I said before, Carroll is not very good. He hasn't made a start since May 19th, and even when he was starting, he went 103 with an ERA over 6.

Daniel Murphy
Another top five guy in the system today, and another guy in the league leaders in hits. Daniel Murphy, with 94, ranks 3rd in the league in hits. In 13.2 innings this season, Vance Worley is pitching to an ERA under 2.00, which is way to small of a sample size, clearly. However, his xFIP this season, and his career ERA is right around 4.00. Worley's BABIP is .220, so a breakout in hits is coming. He doesn't strikeout many, but doesn't walk anyone either. While Murphy is better against lefties, he is good against righties as well, batting .285 against them this season. Murphy has 8 hits in his last 6, so he is mildly hot.

Total Strikeouts

Cole Hamels- The Miami Marlins strike out the most in the National League, and it's not even close, with a 30 strike out lead over second place. Hamels has been great this year, posting his best K/9 since 2006. Since May 1st, he's had a top ERA in the bigs, along with players like Masahiro Tanaka. Hamels batting average against is also under .240, the guy has been great for the Phils this season. So far this month, he's pitched 37 innings, with an ERA under 1.00, and 40 strikeouts. On a day where pitching is a little wacky, he's a top 5 option.

Mike Minor- Another pitcher who goes against a team that strikes out a shit-ton. The Astros, like the Marlins, are the clear front runner in strikeouts in their respective leagues. Minor has had 6 or more strikeouts in 60% of his last 10 starts. Mike Minor's K/9 is the highest it's been for him in 4 years, at 9.00. He leaves over 80% of his runners on base, striking out over 23% of them, and his BABIP is oddly high, so he can only get better. The Astros have 6 players that have struck out at least 60 times this season, Minor is a clear choice today.
