Basketball Picks Daily Fantasy Expert Advice
Daily Fantasy Basketball Picks for DraftStreet and FanDuel 1/14/14
Have you been using our picks? Have you been extracting the most possible value out of your lineups? I sure hope so, because the picks are paying and you're no doubt cashing. Today's a lighter night in the league and far less cheaper options out there which means you're going to need to spend wisely. Have no fear, we've got you covered.
Quick reminder about these picks. At DFSR we employ a system that seeks to gain the most points-per-dollar. When we give a recommendation, it’s because we believe that player has the best chance to meet or exceed his price. On any given the night the highest dollar player can be expected to score the most points, but that doesn’t always make him the best play for the money. Just something to keep in mind. On to the picks.
Point Guard
George Hill DS $7891 FD $4800 - Warning, you are going to see a lot of Pacers on this list today. That's what happens when you play Sacramento and their 27th ranked Defense Efficiency. The Kings blow on the defensive end of things, opening the doors for guys like George Hill at near rock bottom prices. Hill doesn't do much, but he doesn't need to at these prices. I like him in cash games.
Kyrie Irving DS $16162 FD $8200 - He was putrid the other night against said Kings, in a game everyone from the Cleveland end would probably just as soon forget. They got demolished and Uncle Drew was bad, going 3/14 from the field. But tonight he gets the Lakers, God's gift to opposing point guards. I think you have to put him out there.
Mike Conley DS $15660 FD $7700 - Conley is playing out of his mind right now. His last three games he's averaging 27/8 and just dominating. OKC is no great shakes against the point, coming in at worse than league average in points, assists and rebounds given up to the opposing PG. This should be a good game and I like Conley's upside.
Kendall Marshall DS $12878 FD $6700 - Kyrie plays spotty D and the Cavs get crushed by PGs in the assists and rebounds line. All you need to know here is Marshall is getting these minutes blowout or not. He makes a great play just on volume alone.
Shooting Guard
Weak group here tonight.
Lance Stephenson DS $12568 FD $6600 - Again, continuing the Pacer theme, I probably could have save myself the time and just said, "All Pacers are in play." Lance has such an awesome ceiling because he does every single thing you need in the DFS stat line. And when he gets significant scoring opportunities then watch out. Is back from injury and should be in lineups.
Gerald Henderson DS $11663FD $6400 - The Knicks and Bobcats are two of the slowest teams in the league which should make this game brutal to watch (but I will). Henderson should be able to exploit the Knicks as they get killed in the scoring and rebounding departments against opposing SGs. These are Henderson's strengths.
Courtney Lee DS $8796 FD $4000 - He started the other night and got 32 minutes on the court. That's about all he needs at these salaries. Check to make sure Tony Allen isn't playing as Lee is playing the 2. If Allen is out again, Lee is a safe start.
I want very badly to start CJ Miles or Dion Waiters against the Lakers. I just hate that they split minutes. Neither is a bad option, I just wish one had the clear nod in playing time.
Small Forward
Small forward, as always, is a disaster zone today. Durant is way too expensive to play. Rudy Gay has a tough matchup. And everyone else either stinks, has question marks, or stinks and has question marks. Leaving really only...
Paul George DS $15935 FD $9000 - This is where I'm getting the big money in today. George could be in for a big game. At this price he is safe because of his ability to hedge against a bad shooting night by rebounding, blocking and stealing his way to value. When he scores on top of it, it's on. I think tonight he pays this going away.
Wes Johnson DS $7535 FD $4100 - I don't feel great about it.
SF - FanDuel Value
James Johnson $4100 - When will the price catch up?
Power Forward
Tristan Thompson DS $11704 FD $5600 - Could go beast mode on the Laker interior. Six of his last eight games have seen him with double digit rebounds (and one of those he had 9). Last game was a travesty of course, but it's an outlier. Look for him to go nuts on the glass. He is a must start for me based on price and matchup.
Serge Ibaka DS $13748 FD $6800 - Our system likes Ibaka a lot tonight, and I think it's because it expects higher than usual blocks out of the big guy. In general Memphis is fine/good against PFs but they allow a ton of blocks to the position. Look for Ibaka to put up his standard line, but with a swat or two more.
Carmelo Anthony DS $18987 FD $9500- He played 46 minutes last night, so you might want to downgrade him a bit. But since Chandler's been out, Melo has had to pick up even more slack (than usual) in the Knicks offense and defense. He is super safe in terms of production. Just coming off huge minutes has me a little hesitant.
David West DS $12722 FD $6400 - He's playing the Kings and has been better of late. Needs to score to pay off.
PF - DraftStreet Value
Josh McRoberts DS 9113 - We recommended him a few nights ago and he paid off. Knicks interior d is weak, especially if Chandler sits.
Center
Anderson Varejeo DS $14306 FD $6800 - Been playing well since Bynum shipped out of town. The Lakers are straight dogshit against opposing centers. Like epically bad. Varejeo will be in all of my lineups tonight.
Roy Hibbert DS $11932 FD $6000 - Like Anderson better, but Hibbert is just a step below. If you need to save a few bucks, he's a great option against the Kings.

Thank you for the tips. Helped me a lot. Would’ve never thought of Varejao without your help yesterday. Saved my day! Thanks
