We're back with our daily updates article! We'll give you what you need to know for tonight's NBA slate, and try to update this piece right up until line-ups lock with as much information as comes across our desks. Let's get to it!
Last night's picks can be found here, so you can wrap your mind around what you need to be looking at before lineups lock tonight.
By the way - we keep our projection system updated with all of the changes as they occur throughout the day right up until lineup lock. Every day. If you want access to that system so you can cut out a lot of the research element, click the button below!
Now let’s look at some news that’s come in throughout the day to see if anything’s changed in our minds or in the NBA landscape.
It's eerily silent out there today. It's a small slate, yes, but it sure looks like not a lot will change between now and tip off. Famous last words and all, but that's how it looks for now.
Beal played just 20 minutes off the bench in Washington's last game, but played 32 in the game before that as a starter. We're bumping Beal back up to 32 minutes, where he looks like a fairly solid, high-floor play against the Knicks today.
Yes, it's a slow day for basketball news. But this does make a difference - point guard is pretty weak today, and Raul Neto has been paying his basement prices with relative ease recently. I can definitely picture playing him in any format.
But his ankle is apparently really bothering him. This should explain his terrible performances recently. We've downgraded him significantly in the system - not like you're playing him anyway in all likelihood.

This matters less for Duncan than it does for David West. The latter played a big role last time out against the Lakers when he drew the start. The Spurs are fickle with their minutes (especially outside of a few key guys and even then it's suspect) and West would be far from a sure thing even if he started. But if Duncan plays I think both guys are firmly out of play. Right now our system reflects about 20 minutes for West. If Duncan were out it would tick up some. Update: Duncan is out. West gets a slight bump, but he's far from a sure thing.
Deng missed shootaround with some sort of illness (maybe NBA flu, maybe not). If Deng couldn't go, I think we could pencil Justise Winslow into minutes around 35. Last time Deng sat, Winslow played 41 minutes but that was a blowout to the hands of Toronto and Miami had other injury issues to boot. As it stands, Winslow would be a real attractive option at small forward coming in rather cheap. Think we will know about this one prior to lock.
How will a coaching change in New York affect the Knicks' minutes?
Kurt Rambis' coaching track record is pretty lousy, and it's anyone's guess how he's going to shake things up. New coaches tend to shake things up, though, so that's what we're forecasting. My suspicion is that Afflalo's minutes come down slightly (just because basically no one plays 40 minutes), that Kristaps Porzingis' minutes find some sort of regular rotation, and that Robin Lopez sees more consistent minutes as well. What's this based on? Just hunches - and the fact that Rambis seems more likely to keep his big men in regular rotations since he was a big man himself.
Opponent - HOU
FD Proj. Pts - 47 DK Proj. Pts - 50.77
I was wondering if that would happen, based on the lack of other high priced options. It did, in spite of a relatively paltry 4.31 points per dollar projection on FanDuel. It makes sense - it's hard to spend up today.
Opponent - HOU
FD Proj. Pts - 31.55 DK Proj. Pts - 35.08
Yup - another easy one. Klay will be up against James Harden, and should torch him. Shooting guard is rough, and with Afflalo potentially shifting roles slightly, this one makes perfect sense.
Opponent - NYK
FD Proj. Pts - 32.65 DK Proj. Pts - 33.18
Now that he's on a consistent 34 minute rotation, he is the safest center of the day by a mile. Lots of guys have bad match-ups, or are in games with big spreads, or just suck. Gortat lets you spend up at a decent multiplier, and will be in all my double-ups today.

Such a tough day. I never trust most of the Celtics points/minutes, Golden State is a 15 point favorite, New York with Rambis, no news on Melo yet even though ESPN is saying he might be a shut down for the year candidate before too long because of two MRIs in the past couple of weeks. And on top of all that two of the five games have O/u around 190 ( Heat/Spurs Dallas/Utah).
Im looking at the Golden state Houston line and wondering what the situation will be at Center. Who will get the minutes when Bogut is not on the floor? Does this imply more Draymond even with the 14 point spread? I can't really consider speights. Deng is Questionable today. Devin Harris is out. Hassan is a GTD.
Now I see Harden is GTD?
Can't decide on second PG. I have room for Beverly and lower. Anyone going with him? I just look at the high scoring potential and wonder what he can do today
I prefer Neto with Burke out. Spend the extra $$ elsewhere.
The Harden thing is just a swollen finger. Might bother him for shooting purposes, but he should play.
Bogut seems to play his minutes regardless of blowouts, but Draymond is affected.
Speights would be a winner in a blowout, but you can't play him here. The best bet here might be the Rockets to cover, but I wouldn't pull the trigger on it :)
One of those nights I wish I did the multiple lineup thing. One lineup with a bunch of "safe" guys and another with 8 guys from that Rockets/GS game. Could go lots of different ways. That 230 o/u could easily be GS 130-Rockets 100 with a bunch of 2nd team guys racking up fantasy points and burning everyone. These games right before the break always scare me as owners/coaches/gms look to sit guys to take advantage of the all star break. Fully expect to see one or two guys we think are starting not starting tonight.
Yeah - I have some plans tonight and might not play regardless. But tonight feels a lot like last night - big spreads just add so much variance and uncertainty. Last night we lost minutes/opportunity with Kyrie, LeBron, Dipo, Gordon, Davis, and Dieng. And then all the Suns/OKC guys went berserk. Blech.
Thanks James. Good advice. Neto is too cheap to pass up in 50/50
going to go with Dray and Favors at PF
Walll and Neto at PG
pay down at C with Zeller or Bogut
Harden and maybe danny Green at sg
And Barnes and Evan Turner
Dray not affected in a blowout as much as Curry usually
I'll be around to answer questions tonight on here. I'm coming around on Neto though he is definitely the kind of guy who needs every single minute of run.
Neto and Porzingis or D Williams and J Parker?
This one is close. I think Neto and Porzingis.
